This week it's my pleasure to feature the guitar stylings of an old friend of mine. I've been a fan of both his music and his 12 and 6 string guitar virtuosity since the 60s. In the 1980s I had the great pleasure of meeting him (introduced by no less than Chet Adkins, CGP) and we became pals. His vigorous tour schedule leaves little time for much of a social life, but over the years I've always attended his shows and shared his breaks and a beer to get caught up and trade sea stories about our common Navy heritage.
Leo is not a household name (unless you are a fan of Prairie Home Companion or Mountain Stage), but his fans are faithful and true and among guitar pickers he's a legend. He has remained uniquely himself through all the years as comfortable with a Bach etude as with traditional Folk music, Blues, Celtic, Country, Bluegrass and occasional Pop songs. His slide guitar playing is awesome and his laid back personality comes through in his recordings and performances. Comparisons to the likes of Doc Watson, John Fahey and Michael Hedges are common, but Leo has created his own niche and remains uniquely Leo.
Leo is the Odd Thomas of guitar pickers and if you've never paid him much attention I invite you to browse the selections and I can guarantee you'll eventually find something you find charming as his music spans all genres from cowboy ballads to Aerosmith selections with his sometimes partner Mike Gordon, bassist with the band Phish. He's not easy to sum up in words, so just listen buckaroos, I think you'll dig it.
Sidenote: Written by Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac.

Outstanding, Maestro! I have a number of Schubert's Lieder in my repertoire. I have always been amazed at the sheer number of songs he created in his short life - and that I have never encountered one that was bad.
