BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. All that was left were footprints leading away from Christopher Dorner's burned-out pickup truck, and an enormous, snow-covered mountain where he could be hiding among the skiers, hundreds of cabins and dense woods.
More than 100 officers, including SWAT teams, were driven in glass-enclosed snow machines and armored personnel carriers to hunt for the former Los Angeles police officer suspected of going on a deadly rampage to get back at those he blamed for ending his police career.

Very insightful, yefragetuwrabrumuy. BTTT!
Do they make motorcycle helmets that big? That guy's head is huge!
He’s in the desert, and after a quick trip to a Barstow or Needles supermarket, can probably hide out for months until the desert gets hot again.
They may finally catch him with technology but I don't think they will run him down any time soon.
I’m not sure this nutcase is all that prepared. In the video at the link it claims that after the rope got wrapped up in the propeller (Ha!) he “became frustrated”. Perhaps he had a Plan A (steal a boat) and a Plan B (okay, if stealing a boat doesn’t work, I’ll take my truck with the motorcycle and .50 cal and head to my hideout in Vegas after burning my truck at Big Bear).
But I doubt it.
I liked the part where this master criminal assassin dropped his briefcase and badge.

Excerpt:
The disgruntled ex-LAPD officer suspected of shooting three police officers Thursday morning and killing a couple in Irvine earlier this week tried to steal a boat in San Diego and flee to Mexico, authorities said....
The 81-year-old boat owner reported being accosted and tied up by a burly man dressed in black who threatened him with a gun and said he wanted the boat to flee to Mexico. But while the assailant was trying to start the boat, a rope became fouled in the propeller and the boat was inoperable, authorities said....
About 2 a.m., a citizen reported finding property belonging to Dorner on a street near Lindbergh Field, not far from the scene of the attempted boat theft. The property included a briefcase and Dorner’s LAPD badge.
*sigh* It’s not the same country I was born into. The Flag is different, The Pledge is different...
“Theyre going to kill him on-sight;”
Or whoever they mistake for him.
“Dorners LAPD badge”
If a cop is fired, don’t they turn in their badge and hold up their paycheck until they get it?
and anyone standing nearby and whatever random dog wanders by
lol
Three false trails in few hours.
The last thing he wanted to be was a “sore thumb” target in a flat ocean.
Convince everyone he’s headed to Mexico? He’d want that.
Badge and ID near the airport?
Convince everyone he’s headed to elsewhere? He’d want that.
Burned out truck in the San Berdo mountains?
Convince everyone he’s hiding in the snow? He’d want that.
Where is he really? I’d place good money that it’s not Big Bear. He’s warm and snug watching the LAPD tramp around in the snow, freezing their butts off, burning resources, and tiring themselves out.
In a few days when they are totally burned out it will be time for another strike and diversion.
Yep.
I have several souvenir company ID cards. I turned one in each time I left a job.
Nope. The fourth movie in the series was called Rambo.
You’re thinking of First Blood.
/pedantic
A local I know from Vegas told me it is the worst place to go, if you are on the run. Probably the most amount of security cameras, and people monitoring them, per square mile, in the world. The fugitive owned a house there, as well. I think he is elsewhere. Thanks.
If you were trying to flee the country via a stolen boat, would you tell the boat owner where you intended to go?
He's either incredibly stupid, or that was a deliberate ruse. I suspect he may have stolen the boat with the intent of ditching it somewhere down (or up) the coast, as another diversion, but don't seriously think he was trying to run to Mexico.
He probably had a car parked somewhere near where his truck was burned. Then drove down the backside of Big Bear into the high desert.
He could be attempting to spread The Coast Guard out, as well. In 1983 Kevin Cooper evaded a manhunt for quite a few weeks, working as a crew member on a sailboat, off the coast of CA, and Baja. I’m sure law enforcement won’t discount that possibility.
Note that the two perps who hit the prosecutor in Texas a week or two ago havn’t been flushed out either.
“this guy seemed to be prepared. He could be on a ship or in the mountains or the desert or almost anywhere by now”
I don’t know how sharp this guy actually is in the planing dept. but if he is he’s had a lot of time to plan and salt away attack/escape assets all over any locale of his choosing. Very scary.
