THE phone rings again at Pasadena Pawn and Gun, and a familiar question comes down the line: Got any ARs?
The answer is no. Pasadena Pawn and Gun, a gun retailer and pawnshop 15 miles south of Baltimore, is pretty much sold out of Americas most wanted gun, the AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle. Since the massacre in Newtown, Conn., in December, the AR-15, the military-style weapon that the police say was used in the shootings, has been selling fast here and across the nation.
Before Newtown, the rifles sold for about $1,100, on average. Now some retailers charge twice that. At Pasadena Pawn, on the wall behind glass counters of handguns, are three dozen or so AR-15-style rifles. Dangling from nearly every one is a tag that says Sold.
The AR-15, its kind of fashionable, says Frank Loane Sr., the proprietor. His shop has a revolving waiting list for the rifles, and a handful of people are now on it. The young generation likes them, the assault-looking guns.
....
Another feature of the AR-15 is that it can be easily personalized and accessorized.
You can take the whole gun apart and replace any part you want to without special tools, without knowing a whole lot, says Tim McDermott, a range officer at the Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center in Raleigh, N.C. They are Legos for guys.

I did not know the Armalite was produced in Sterling England.
I got plenty of East German Weiger’s when they were $14
Only the AR-18/180. Armalites of the AR-10/15 patterns are produced in the US.
How long ago was that? Those are hard to come by today.
Hope you are right.. I have orders (back orders) on ammo
TT
(I still envy your sweet deal)
Yeah, that sounds about right. Back when saigas were $250 and SKSs were $125 -— those were the days.
There have been recent reports (this week) of Tula Brass Maxx ammo coming into some Walmarts. Several calibers. Brass case, boxer primed, jacketed lead bullet made in Italy. Possibly contracted from Fiocchi? .223 at about $0.39 per round. I have only heard of it. Not seen any personally.
From a lot of reviews, the 50 round drum AR mag is a lot more reliable the 60 round Surefire mag.
They became a favorite of the IRA who dubbed them "The Widowmaker." An Irish drinking song even grew out of their affection for the weapon: My Little Armalite
Being of Irish descent I should have one of those for collectable purposes only.
As a collector, I love the historical aspects of arms.
“I know. Try finding a magazine for one! They are worth their weight in gold!”
Who wants .223...mine is an AK that uses 7.62...I will take it any day over piss ant stuff
Was less noting the magazine and more noting the current manual of arms for getting an AR up and running.
I had friends from there at the time.
They fled the “troubles” and came here.
Some of us like it for the collectible history.
It is not often you see a Combloc AK in NATO 5.56.
One that I find funny and no one appreciates is the Yugo AK’s and SKS’s with NATO 22MM grenade launchers.
What movie is this clip from?
Spktyr you are right only the AR-18/180 were made by Stirling Arms in England. I think they were made from 1974 - 1983. 12,000+ AR-180s were made there.
