A 5-year-old boy held captive for seven days in an underground bunker in southern Alabama is alive and his kidnapper is dead, a law enforcement official told NBC News on Monday afternoon.
Jimmy Lee Dykes, a 65-year-old man described by his neighbors as a paranoid survivalist, grabbed the boy from a school bus last Tuesday afternoon.

“I could see it now. All inhabitable dwellings must be registered and have access for law enforcement”
They already do, its called a building permit.
Does that also apply on county property?
That bus driver is a hero. Thank God it ended up with the bad guy dead and the good kid alive.
Thank God.
Depends on the county but generally yes. They want drawings, inspections and taxes for everything.
Suicide by FBI bullets? Appeared that the old man didn’t want to waste his remaining years away rotting in a jail cell.
I suspect they used a “low explosive” for the hole. Unlike high explosive, that would shatter the wall and send the pieces flying inward, low explosives “push” a hole through the wall.
When every second counts, the po-po are only a week away.
Lord God, we thank You for rescuing this child and for answering our prayers. May Your Name be praised!

Amen.
.... I find it very curious that we have known the perps identity for almost 7 days but the Communist Socialist Propaganda Machine has been suspiciously silent about Jim Dykes background. All that was revealed about him is that he was “Anti Government.” Normally we would have known every single detail about the perpetrators life by now.
Well he was coming arounfd
That is truly brilliant!
good one
Most probably because he was able to see/hear the news and if they reported something he didn’t like, he could have harmed the little boy. They may have kept silent because of him.
I am still outraged it took a full week to rescue the boy. They could have found some way to ‘sedate’ via gas or do some other high tech rescue. He could have been a pedophile or been torturing the young boy.
There is a major problem with gas when a child is present. The effective dose for an adult is probably fatal to a child.
This was a unique situation that presented a very difficult tactical situation. If leaked information and official statements are correct it did not appear that he had harmed the child so the best answer was to continue to wait things out refining the tactical plan for an immediate response or planned assault. I was happy with the results and pray for the well-being of the child and family.
“Thank God for the LE people who used common sense to bring this situation to a wonderful end.”
I disagree.
I watched some of the coverage that was on Fox News, towards the end.
What I saw was shocking — or it should be to any freedom-loving American.
The place was swarming with FBI and I saw troops in camouflage. Couldn’t tell if they were military or FBI and/or police in military garb.
All for one man holding one hostage.
This should never have progressed beyond local police with help from the state police.
I thought Alabama was supposed to be a conservative state. A truly conservative governor, especially in these times, should have told the feds to butt out.
We are seeing the future in incidents like this — and that future looks scary indeed.
A thought came to me recently. Of course, we have something called Posse Comitatus that is supposed to prevent the military from being used to police American citizens and enforce state laws on American soil.
But the Posse Comitatus law does nothing to address the use of [supposedly non-military] federal “agents” who have become increasingly militarized in behavior, equipment, and tactics. It does nothing to address the use of local and state police, also “miitarized” into SWAT teams or even in outright military garb.
Since the government cannot use our own “military” against us as such, they are transforming the police into nothing less than a quasi-military force.
This incident was a good illustration of that transformation.
I’m glad the boy was rescued and that the perp is no longer a threat to anyone.
But this weren’t a wonderful ending. It was a portent of things to come .
I realize your opinion may be different. But that’s how I see it .
Incorrect. Local and State asked for assistance. Very unique situation. Needed to save the boy and figure out how to survey the bunker. Local or state funds did not have this tech.
Bottom Line.. Boy is alive
Very good point. Also, whatever “message” he had for why he did this will be forever buried too. Winners write the history books. Whatever upset him, he sure didn’t handle it very well.
