Thank GOD!!! My fear was this would end badly. My hats off to the LEO’s who waited until they could get the boy out (semi)-safely. Prayers to the boy, who will probably re-live this nightmare for years to come.

...gunman, 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, is deceased...The way it should be. According to news conference, he was seen holding a gun and LEO's entered, rescued the boy and said Dykes was deceased!

Several loud booms were heard, and not long after an ambulance drove away, presumably taking the boy for a medical checkup.
My first thought was concussion grenades, and I see that one of the reporters speculates the same.
