Calling All Free Republic Baby Boomers (Born 1946 to 1964)
US Census ^ | 1 Feb 13 | Xzins

Posted on 02/01/2013 5:18:02 AM PST by xzins

The US Census Bureau, in "The Older Population" indicates that Baby Boomers are defined as follows:

6 The Baby Boom includes people born from mid-1946 to 1964. The Baby Boom is distinguished by a dramatic increase in birth rates following World War II, and is one of the largest generations in U.S. history. For more information, see: Hogan, Perez, and Bell, 2008, Who (Really) Are the First Baby Boomers? In Joint Statistical Meetings Proceedings, Social Statistics Section, Alexandria, VA: American Statistical Association, pp. 1009–1016.

You are now from about 50 to 67 years old, and you are the glad result of WWII and Korean Era parents celebrating an advancing America. You saw the origin of television, the advent of the space program, the determination of the cold war, the fear of nuclear holocaust, the change from slide rules to calculators, the dawn of the computer age, and the wonder of worldwide, at-your-fingertips communication.

You've also seen the nation spiral from a moral beacon of personal and political freedom to the chaos of dependency, distraction, and self-indulgence that defines our entitlement society.

What is your prescription for this America?

What will this nation look like in the year 2030?

Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?

I was raised by Liberal parents in a Liberal state. My childhood was good -- safe, played outside until it got dark. Never a worry. College in the late 70s in the big city -- saw the gritty underside of life, and saw Reagan and Giuliani come in and start to clean things up and restore what had been lost. I've always wanted to help in that effort and continue the struggle to get this country back to where it was in the 1940s, 50s and early 60s.

But I now feel the struggle is lost. America is not America, and I do not think it can be restored. I'm just waiting the Jesus. I figure an economic collapse and a civil war and a tribulation may precede the big event, but my only hope now is in the Second Coming.

Oh snap! I missed it by a year. I still think it's my "fault".

Baby boomers (I'm one) should inform their children and extended families that obamacare has sentenced their parent's to AN EARLY DEATH.

There will be NO extended care for the elderly. In Britian, if you are 70+, you will receive nothing but the hospice, which is next door to the crematorium.

I’m glad I’m not any younger. I won’t have to see the elimination of our way of life.

I was born in 64 and I would like to see government rolled back to about 1964 in size, spending, most regulations and overall reach.

My dad was a garbageman when I was born and my birth only cost about a week and a half pay (Less than $100)

Secession, hopefully not followed by a Civil War II. But I doubt it. Civil War cometh. Red vs Blue it is inevitable.

1. What is your prescription for this America?

2. What will this nation look like in the year 2030?

3. Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?
_____________________________________________

1. My prescription for America is Ronald Reagan in large doses followed by a stiff shot of Dick Cheney. However that is not realistic, so my prescription is to pray, live life free and independent, follow one’s faith in moral and honorable ways to the best of one’s ability in order to set an example for one’s children and their children.

2. I have no idea what the country will look like in 2030. But I do believe history has excellent examples, Ancient Rome being the best indicator of a corrupt society. I’ve always held to the precept that this Nation will never fall to another and instead we’ll destroy from within. I think this is being played out right now with the entitlement society rot. How long our demise is anybody’s guess. I pray I’m not around to see it.

3. I’m here on Free Republic because I need to converse and exchange ideas with people who possess common sense, follow political conservatism, and don’t believe that faith, good morals, patriotism, love of family etc... are passé.

What is your prescription for this America?

Push DC and the ruling class, off into the Atlantic Ocean and start over

What will this nation look like in the year 2030?

Without a reversal of the corruption? The movie Idiocracy comes to mind

Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?

I find information here, news articles and intelligent opinion that I spread to the younger friends, co-workers, and other like minded individuals, in hopes of educating those low info members of society. IMHO It is a daunting job, but if I were on a sinking boat, rather than doing nothing, I would bail water with a coffee cup until the very end.

I fit that definition of baby boomer, but I am near the end of it. One of my theories of life I call "ten years after the wave". That means I am ten years behind the spike of children born and I share nothing in common with them. I was a child during the 60's so I missed all that.

Basically I have spent my entire life in the turbulent wake of the 60's generation from when I was ridiculed at 4 YO because I couldn't hula hoop, to the "new celibacy" just as I wanted to become sexually active, lost a great opportunity because of affirmative action PC, and on and on.

So what does this mean to me? It means that by the time I become elderly the entire elder care system will be hopelessly screwed up and I will be caught in its chaotic demise. There is no escaping it except to die young.

My prescription - the proverbial “control-alt-delete” as provided for in Amendment 2 of the Constitution. Nothing else will work at this point IMHO.

Every day that passes I feel more like that. But there is hope.

"If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land".

The only prescription is a spiritual revival. Without God, the Constitution and Declaration are meaningless.

In 2030, I hope Yeshua Messhiah will be on the throne ruling with a rod of iron with the armies of heaven patrolling the earth.

Then I can sleep with my windows open and doors unlocked. A baby boom never before experienced will be joyfully celebrated and the elderly who have survived the great tribulation will live to be 500 because the Messiah is the Great Healer!

That is my hope and brings a peace that passes understanding, even if I don’t live to see it.

Born 1948 & when I give my DOB to my internist’s secretary she says “No way! You’re 35, right?”

;^)

Anyway, what’s my grain of wisdom? Consider a deer in the forest in the prime of its life. It’s either going to die instantly from a hunter’s bullet or die slowly & horribly in the natural way of things.

Do I want to die in assisted living or on my feet? So much to look forward to. What if this were Berlin 1945? There’d be a lot more to worry about than the infirmities of middle age.

Hopeless? No, because I know my Redeemer liveth.

My prescription...

EVERY Freeper physically and mentally able to, becomes a member of their local, county and/or state Republican committees.

Those are the folks who set the agenda.

We become the new "establishment" republicans, promoting smaller, constitutional government.

I was raised by conservative parents in a wonderful environment (Small town Wisconsin) close to my grandparents on both sides.

We went to church (ALC) regularly, was a Cub, Boy and Explorer Scout, played Little League Baseball and grew up hunting and fishing with my Dad and Granddads.

What this country needs is a strong dose of morals. I watched the start of the degeneration on the campus of the University of Wisconsin 1966-1970. As a Lieutenant of the Army National Guard, I also fought three riots on my own campus, including air missions in May of 1970. I saw the start of the path the liberals wanted this country to pass.

I suggest we need to make a damned big deal out of the fact that the bastard bankrolling the big PACs is someone who collaborated with the SS in WWII, turning in his own kind. This is the poster child of the progressive movement. Immorality, dispicability, and treason.

We need to go on the attack and not be ashamed of our beliefs and values. The Progressives have none!
