My husband I just ended our debate about having children. To breed or not to breed, this was the question — and it had been ticking like an egg timer in the back of my head for 15 years.
We talked about it for five months. In the car on the way to work. During dinner. For five minutes, for 30 minutes. After seeing nephews and nieces.
I wanted it to be a decision we made, not one made for us by chance or time. I turned to friends with kids for advice. “Feel free to convince me to your side,” I told them. Leaving a legacy and crazy joy, they said. I bow down to their personal sacrifice. It is an enormous gift for society to raise an educated, productive, ethical, moral child.
On our last vacation, my husband and I mulled over this question: “On your deathbed, what will you regret not doing?” We listed our answers at dinner on the last night. Neither of us mentioned children...

Having said that, she’s an utter fool, unsurprisingly. Skipping having children so that she can work more is idiocy.

what I see happens alot, is a childless couple ends up divorced in their mid/late 40’s, and the man remarries
a younger women and they immediately have 1-2 children. Women is left alone and bitter.

If you restrict yourself to the “good” you have a point. I was speaking of greatness, however. Geniuses may be born, but they require the sort of fanatical work and unhealthy obsession that puts off regular people. Like I said, the list of childless great historical thinkers and intellectual doers is too long to list. But I can excerpt a list from a book I read recently:
Newton, Faraday, Mendel, Vivaldi, Handel, Beethoven, Gibbon, Macaulay, Carlyle, Plato, Aquinas, Bacon, Locke, Leibniz, Hume, Kant, and Mill. On a slightly lower plane he puts Copernicus, Swift, Smith, Haydn, Johnson, Dalton, and Galton (Francis, who directly related to the subject of the book).
You may find, as I do, deep melancholy in the thought that there could’ve been two world renowned Beethoven sons had he sired a CPE and a JC, as did JS Bach. Then again, maybe there’d be no 9th symphony, Missal Solemnis, or Hammerklavier sonata had Beethoven been the marrying type.

I am always in favor of far left wing idiots deciding not to breed for any reason. It improves the gene pool for countless future generations.
Unlike almost all the others who have commented, I agree with the lady on this matter, although maybe for differing reasons. When I was 18 I decided that I would never be a parent, basing my decision on what I had experienced and what I saw around me (your mileage may vary, but then again, you didn’t live my life).
It was a decision I never wavered from, and I’m now 72. And, no, I have no regrets.
Among the reasons I have no regrets is thinking about the current political and social situations we are in. I don’t have to concern myself with worry about grandchildren who are going to grow up in an America that I would not choose for myself and a country in which I was privileged to live and enjoy the freedoms that are rapidly disappearing. And I see a lot of you have noted that concern.
I am conservative and am concerned about the battles we face and will do what I can to help out. I’m just not optimistic that we’re going to win them. Demographics, you know.
I long ago tired of arguing with those who think I am misguided, so I won’t do it again. Just expressing my thoughts.

nurturing 2 more as if they were my own adopted, all the while

My 4 kids are all good kids well versed in Bible thinking and clean living.

I get where you're coming from. I am deeply depressed about the type of country my kids are likely to grow up in, where the better of a job I do raising them, the more likely they will be shat upon by the dominant leftist culture. If I can't scrape together the money to keep them out of public schools, they will be taught to hate themselves for the color of their skin (Seattle Public Schools recently caught some flak for sending students to a "White Privilege" conference), and made to feel guilty for every bit of common sense they have. Nevertheless, even though I have little hope for this country I have a lot of hope that they can find a happy life for themselves. The future of free people is not in America but it may be elsewhere.
