The 15-member Independent Payment Advisory Board (i.e. the so-called death panel) included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has run into a bit of problem: Very few want to join.
Jonathan Gruber, for example, helped lay the groundwork for Massachusetts health-care law and played an important role in making Obamacare the law of the land. So youd think hed be an obvious choice for the panel, right?
No way, he said, according to the Washington Post. Maybe if it was a part-time gig. But full time? I cant see it.
And hes not alone.
It is supposed to be 15 members, with limited salaries who cant do any outside work, former director of the Office of Budget and Management under Obama Peter Orszag said. It will be challenging to find top 15 health-care experts are who would want that job.
Youre joining an organization that has uncertain authority with the certainty of being deeply political and widely criticized, said former Obama health policy adviser Bob Kocher. It doesnt make sense for current thought leaders in American health care to want this.
The creators of Obamacare claim the boards chief purpose is to keep the cost of Medicare in check by changing the amount of Medicares doctor payments (in the past, these changes have been left up to legislators). And its because the panel has the power to amend these payments while also coming up with new ways to deliver high quality care for less, as the WaPo puts it, that critics of the law claim it will lead to rationed medicine.

I’ll do it... I have a few old liberals I’d like to get even with
Wait- you think this will nevewr happen the other way around? Which group of people has no problem murdering innocent babies still in the womb?
I’ll take it.
“...It will be challenging to find top 15 health-care experts are who would want that job...”
Experts?
zero has never let that stand in his way...
Try them.
I’ll do it! I’ll be like the Hanging Judge, in reverse. I’ll have engraved on my gavel, “Let ‘em live!”
0bama could get people like Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farakahn to be on the death panels. It would be a great opportunity to get even with Whitey.
Even Cthulhu would refuse that job.
Don’t worry ,they’ll find the medi-technocrats to do it.
Ha, the edict singly responsible for turning more full-time jobs into part-jobs than anything in American history has trouble finding people who want to work full time.
IOW, Cass Sunstein, Daniel Berwick, Van Jones types. Don't worry, party affiliation will have no effect on whether you are chosen to live or die.
We know what sort of person wants this job; it can't be that hard to find them.
Board members of planned parenthood and abortionists would jump at the chance.
No way, he said, according to the Washington Post. Maybe if it was a part-time gig. But full time? I cant see it.
Ha, the edict singly responsible for turning more full-time jobs into part-jobs than anything in American history has trouble finding people who DON'T want to work full time.
What's it pay?
I've 20 yrs of Health Care experience...
But I'm sure there are some mid-level managers at the IRS who would just be giddy at the chance..............
Luckily he has a JOBS COUNCIL he could approach. Oh wait, that's been shut down. Of all the luck.
the ones who really want to be on the panel will be everyone’s problems.
