If you take an honest look at the world, though, what do you think are the chances that we can stop insane violent people from doing insane violent things? Can we make sure this never happens again? Not a chance. It is an absolute certainty that evil and violent people will do evil and violent things in the future. The real questions are, how can we best protect ourselves and how can we minimize the number of these people in society.
As to the saving the life of one child argument, here are some facts to consider:
According to the Center for Disease Control, Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. So that is around 700 dead children per year. Approximately 20% of these deaths occurred in public pools with certified life-guards.
There are approximately 365,000 dog bites per year in the U.S. that are serious enough to require a visit to the emergency room 1000 per day. 38 people in the U.S. were killed by dogs in 2012. Around 50% of those injured and killed are children.
The government reported that in 2010, 1210 children under the age of 15 died in traffic accidents. Approximately 70 children per year choke to death on food. Since 1973, 110 children have choked to death on balloons.
I could go on, but the point is that there are many, many government controls we could propose that would save the life of at least one child. We dont do that because that isnt the standard we use in the real world. It is the standard used only in political theater where politicians seeks to prove that they care about the children more than you.

It is time to ban dihydrogen oxide!
A sheeperal’s driving motivation is to feel good about themselves, ie, self-righteousness.
This is why the emotionalism is so effective on them. Once they achieve their sense of self-righteousness, as far as they’re concerned, it’s end of discussion.
When Hillary displayed self righteous anger yesterday, questioners backed off. Republicans need to keep fighting emotionalism with logic - and stop getting played by the “most respected woman in the world”.
unfortunately, with the low information voter “emotionalism” works and sways voters..
I think that rather than worrying about how liberals argue, we should be worried about how we argue.
Argument is like a shovel ...it can be a mutually used tool to get to the truth of something...or a weapon to try and beat to death and bury someone.....The lefts leader never teach their follower to search for truth...look at Saul Alinsky...he wrote their bible..and he teaches nothing of how to search for truth...he only teaches weapons to beat to death and bury...
Amen. Arguing with today's liberal is not only futilte, it's as stupid as negotiating with a terrorist.
You can’t protect innocent people by disarming innocent people.
I will take exceptionalism over emotionalism any day....liberals would have to debate the idea, then poll everyone, then have a Sunday show with talking points to determine that exceptionalism is racist and excludes the less fortunate.
The talking head shows already do that every day, and twice on Sunday.
Might I add....motivation is to feel good about themselves WHILE not actually giving up anything in the way of time, money, effort on their part. They simply want to “mean well” or have “good intentions” and then go about their favorite lifestyles.
Yep, I call it “advocacy-based righteousness”.
It’s even more off base than “works-based righteousness”.
