Hu Songwen built his machine after he could no longer afford hospital bills
He said two of his friends had died after building and using similar machines
Offered Government medical aid after story went national, but says nearest hospital is too far away and too crowded
Three times a week, Hu Songwen sits on a small toilet in his home in a rural east China town and fires up his homemade dialysis machine.
Hu, who suffers from kidney disease, made it from kitchen utensils and old medical instruments after he could no long afford hospital fees.
He was a college student when he was diagnosed in 1993 with kidney disease, which means waste products cannot be removed from his blood.
He underwent dialysis treatment in hospital but ran out of savings after six years. His solution was to create his own machine to slash his costs.

Coming soon to American, but you will have to still pay the ‘Obamacare’ tax on your machine!
Get his plans. We may need this device after Obamacare kicks in.
His initiative is very admirable.
How is that socialized medicine working?
Genius.
Now that’s some serious self-reliance. Inspiring.
Probably a very smart idea. I doubt that he would have passed the “economic benefit analysis” test and would have been relegated to the dumpster along with the aborted babies.
Now there is a guy I’d like to meet
Good for him. He built that.
The next thing we’ll know, we’re using SLR cameras for home-made XRAYS.
So, under 0bamaCare, will this become the new standard of care, or would he be prosecuted for defying the Death Panel?
They use superglue too. just like veterinarians.

If you live in Al Franken’s province, you get a waiver.
I cry foul!
Items made in China seldom work as intended and if they do they certainly do not last 13 years.
Dyalysis costs a ton of money, and many times the patient has to be transported to treatment by Ambulance.
It would appear that a home machine could be made at a reasonable cost.
Don’t worry though it would put a lot of Dyalysis plces out of business and cut back on money making enterprises.
First the Government would never allow this to be produced and second the Doctors would be cut out of a big piece of money.
It will never happen here.
Not only did he build a machine but hopefully, he also built some kind of shunt that allows him to hookup to the machine easily.
If he just uses IVs to connect to his arteries and veins, then it must hurt like hell. Veins are easy to get to, arteries, different story.
When I was in the hospital, my roommate’s doctor need blood gas or something from his arteries and I remember seeing the cut down kit, it did not look fun although they at least gave him pain killers and a local dose of Novacane. I asked my Doctor why they couldn’t just use a long needle? Since I was just a kid he blew me off. I wonder if they still do that.
Back to the Chinese guy, that is incredible. I wonder what he uses to filter the waste products from the good stuff?
China abolished its socialized medicine scheme in 1989.
It didn’t work
