Time Is Ripe To Consider Liability Insurance For Gun Owners
Hart\ford Courant ^ | January 22, 2013 | Rick Green

As the gun debate heats up, one idea seems particularly suited for Connecticut to consider: liability insurance for gun owners.

This is the kind of mandatory insurance you have to get to drive a car — and the kind of protection that costs more if you want to take what the industry knows is a calculated risk. Letting your teenager get behind the wheel is a good example.

We just need to Fluke this whole thing...
Since our 2nd Amendment rights are spelled out
in the Bill of Rights perhaps we should demand
like Ms.Fluke that the government pay for any
insurance needed. I won’t go into the government
supplying us with guns and ammo, that comes later.

It needs a clause requiring magazines and newspapers and TV stations to pay a truth tax on every issue they print.

I like it!

A tax paid for by all publishers, setting up a fund to compensate those who were harmed by their errors or lies.

I already have liability insurance, of course. It only makes sense.

Wait, you mean MANDATING all gun owners to buy liability insurance?

Well, hey, let’s get an opinion from Chief Jackass John Roberts. If he’s for it, there’s no stopping it.

Show me where the Constitution recognizes an uninfringeable right to drive a car and we'll talk.

Until then, keep you back-door registration efforts off of my rights.

Time for mandatory libel/slander insurance for journalists and politicians. Sue the living crap out of them for lying. If they argue 1st amendment rights, we argue 2nd amendment rights. Sauce for the goose...

Yes, let’s rip off the legitimate gun owners. We wouldn’t want a criminal to get shot. Wouldn’t be fair.

Texas welcomes you, my conservative FRiend. I lie down at night to sleep and almost always hear the sounds of Texans exercising their 2A rights.

I do live outside of town.

In a few concise words, you pigeon-holed this HC reporter precisely!...his agenda has always been that of a statist.

Crimes (including negligence) are not insurable. Accidents are few and far between. Guns are less dangerous than other items... I have a $2 million liability umbrella policy... Maybe I should review what all it covers...

Always a good idea to check. As Sacajaweau correctly states, criminality is never covered. I've checked this issue periodically, as I do for all sorts of possessions, and have been assured that as long as my actions are within the law, of course I'm covered, including my umbrella. But you should check, companies can exclude anything.

But the intent here it burdening gun owners, which insurance companies won't object to if it means revenue. So I'd suggest the solution would be either legislation requiring some level of liability insurance for anyone residing in the US, including illegals, or preferably legislation banning insurance companies from deleting firearms from coverage.

Should there be a perp doing harm, to you or your property, the City of Hartford will just allow them back into the bosom of the politicos. We had Eddie Perez, a convicted felon as mayor of Hartford.

The State of Ct recently REL:EASED 3000 convicted felons back in to society for time served. I’m quite certain when they go to purchase their firearm, it won’t be through the state sanctioned registration process.

This is why my hair is turning gray.process.
