Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, also said the Republican approach was reassuring.
"If the House can pass a clean debt ceiling increase to avoid default and allow the United States to meet its existing obligations, we will be happy to consider it," he said in a statement.

And do you really believe that the GOPe could ever force the Dims to agree to spending cuts? And even if they did, which they can’t because they are spineless and want the spending as much as the Dims, do you really think the Dims would stick to that agreement?
The debt ceiling keeps the public’s eye on the out-of-control spending.
If there is any hope of slowing the hemorrhage of our deficit-spending, it will only come about by public outcry and public demand. Get rid of the debt ceiling and the public is even further in the dark regarding what is happening economically.
We need to threaten to “:shut down the government again” like was done in the 1990’s...
Then when the Lie-berals Squeal like stuck little pigs we simple need to say this sentence:
“We just want to shut it down like it was in the 1990’s, you know when we shut it down and civilization basically ended and there was nothing but anarchy in the streets and people dying everywhere in the streets of America, oh wait that didn’t happen did it....”
Basically go on to tell them that their threats of doom if the government is shut down are nothing but idle threats and they are fools for thinking it will affect us in a horrible world ending way.
“House Republicans back off from fiscal clash with Obama”
of course they did
I still say we need an actual second party. Can’t see any real difference in the in the ones we supposedly have. I want to call it the CONSERVACAN PARTY and use Goldwater’s book as the founding document. Except the only place I really disagree with Barry is that Conservatism should claim the dead center, not the right, since the long term security and solidity of the country has to be neither revolutionary or status quo.
Gutless cowards!
One political party for increased federal funding to federal government, and the other for increased federal funding to state and local governments. Both outlaw new, small manufacturing shops on rural properties, private projects by property owners, etc. Prevents domestics from competing with the import regime.
Yep! They all need to be replaced, except the few that show some kind of integrity!

I gave up that illusion about the time Romney was anointed the presidential nominee.
This song and dance between congressional republicans, democrats and the president is designed to entertain us, not to solve the problems we are facing. Congress is now akin to the circuses and tournaments organized at the behest of monarchs of old. The dictator is in charge now. There is no representative government.
I can’t believe how stupids people are for thinking that Pubbies aren’t Leftists at heart. Go back and read the history on them.
Collectivism only benefits the rich and the poor. The rich are represented by the Pubbies and the poor, the Dems. No matter which side you vote for as a Conservative you lose. One day Americans will wake up and figure that out but not now.
Because they can. They caved. They don’t want to admit it even to themselves.
“You can fool some of the people some of the time, and most of the people most of the time. But you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” But on the other hand, you don’t need to, so long as you don’t fool yourself.
Gutless b@$t@rds.
...is anyone going to stop these people?
You'll hear that quite frequently around here, if you stick around.
Welcome to Free Republic.
Oh good, the republicans have avoided a potentially messy conflict.
/sarcasm
Predictable and sickening. Thanks Boehner!
“The GOP has now picked a new place to draw their line in the sand.”
Boehner only knows how to draw a line in the kitty litter.
never doubted this for one second.
Finally the Pubbies are learning how to use political jujitsu.
The only thing the Republicans know is “Hari-Kari.”
