NEW YORK (WABC) -- It appears someone forgot to exempt police officers from the ban of ammunition clips with more than 7 bullets in New York State's new gun control law.
It's a big oversight that apparently happened in the haste by the Cuomo Administration to get a tough package of gun-control measures signed into law.
On Tuesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the sweeping gun measure, the nation's toughest. It includes a ban on the possession of high-capacity magazines.

throw a $50 laser on that thing and youo’d never have to pull the trigger.
that little red dot on their chest or nose can be quite a deterrent too, i’d imagine
If seven shots is good enough for us peons, it’s good enough for the government’s enforcers.
“Why do the police need more than 7 rounds? 7 is enough for the common man & the police are supposed to be better trained than us.”
So the dog shooters are now wee weeing their pants at only having 7 rnd mags. How does it feel to be treated like the peons? At least you have bullet proof vests to protect your fat-azzes.
This is a fine example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect
(Def.: Stupid people are too stupid to realize they're stupid)
The Second Amendment recognized the right to carry the same arms as the common soldier of the day;therefore body armor, laser and infrared, kevlar helmets ,bayonets,30 round clips, selective fire, and all weapons designed to be carried and used by one person are covered under the Constitution.
And as always, misuse of any weapon is cause for trial and punishment if convicted.
That sucks for any Garand owners. It's one of the few rifles that actually uses "clips". And I haven't tried to load a clip with 7 rounds into mine. I would think it to be rather difficult...
I read that you’re supposed to just put 7 in.
No kidding.
And, I assume in the very near future, there will be magazines with a 6 round tall ‘dummy block’ filling the bottom, availav=ble for sale as ‘New York’ legal.
And he answers the question ‘why do you neeeed a large capacity magazine’.
It might be because them there criminals use them.
An 8 round clip is standard for the Garand.
If the clip itself does not have the full 8 rounds, the rounds are loose in the clip and fall out, making it impossible to load.
If a law abiding citizen can only have 7 rounds the cops shouldn’t be allowed to have 8.
My XD has a magazine. I’ve never seen a clip fed model.
1 rdn at the time.
Like this?
However, my training tells me that, if it needs to come out of my pocket, the little red dot is only for aiming. The person upon whom it was drawn would need to react very quickly in order to avoid getting shot.
Time out please, Mr. Evil Doer.
I have to reload my M1 and I can only do 1 round at a time.
Standard 1911 magazines are 7 round, though my Shooting Stars are all 8 round. I wonder if this will outlaw the 8 or 9 shot .22LR revolvers too?

I've seen modified Garand clips that only accept 3 or 5 rounds, in order to be legal for deer hunting in many states.

“At least you have bullet proof vests to protect your fat-azzes.”
Yeah, because you never know if that dog in the backyard might be packing.
I say no compromise on the 2nd Amendment but if I may play Devil’s Advocate, the law should apply to all, us, cops, the military, secret service, etc.
That doesn’t make it right!! I will surrender nothing!
