These Democratic sources say the most likely legislation to pass will be strengthening background checks, since it is the least overt form of gun control and it also appeals to gun rights advocates' emphasis on keeping guns away from people with mental health and criminal problems.
[Updated at 12:42 p.m. ET] Reaction to Obama's announcement is starting to come in. From Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, whose state was the site of the December 14 school massacre that prompted Obama to examine gun control steps:

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Where’s the line item point: “We will have real hearings on ‘Fast and Furious’??
Headline yesterday:
“Obama To Announce Tough New Gun Controls”
Headline Today:
“Obama Punts To Avoid Impeachment”
The blue lipped commie Kenyan homo probably enjoys that.
Obama Punts To... Avoid Impeachment??
Most likely he’s planning a third term run. If John Boehner had been on his toes Obama would have been impeached long ago. There’s a list.
Did they do background checks before they distributed the “Fast and furious” guns???

Even younger little ones are denied these rights every day via abortion.
Good! Now people can go back to sleep, prices will come back down, inventory will go back up, and I can get back to preppin’ until the Do-Nothing Congress just won’t act, so He the King will just have to impose AW Ban by EO (for the chidren, of course)...
Onama needs a background check
troops shpould be dispatched to the white house , Obama should be transported to Gitmo in handcuffs
I know about the list.
I was thinking of the specific promise by Rep. Steve Stockman, Texas Republican, to file a Bill of Impeachment against Obama if he issues Executive Orders that are blatant violations of the 2nd Ammendment.
It looks as if Obama has decided to take some small steps calculated to not trigger action to impeach.
So he can use Executive Orders to vote “Present”?
Interesting that there appears to be nothing in there about:
a) Violent video games
b) Psychotropic drugs in schools (and elsewhere).
I know about the list of other reasons to consider Obama's impeachment.

At least for the time being.
Phony SOBs! When Wayne LaPierre said it, he was a sick extemist. Two weeks later, it's gospel from The One.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
Does this “school officials training” include weapons training for staff and teachers as well as principals?
:)
Obummer should go to a Gun Shop, try to buy a weapoon - unfortunately he cannot pass the background check.
