ALBANY Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law on Tuesday a sweeping package of gun control measures, significantly expanding a ban on assault weapons and making New York the first state to change its laws in response to the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
Mr. Cuomo signed the bill less than an hour after the State Assembly approved the legislation on a 104-to-43 vote. The State Senate approved the measure, 43 to 18, on Monday night.
The expanded ban on assault weapons broadens the definition of such weapons, banning semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature. New Yorkers who already own such guns can keep them but will be required to register them with the state.

Look at the votes on this bill. We now know exactly, by name, who our enemies are. They are the enemies of freedom and liberty. They are not Americans.
Let's say the guns went missing somehow. I guess there would have to be a reason you're being asked about the whereabouts of your guns in the first place. So in effect you can drown your guns, report them as missing and hide them well until needed.
It's interesting that just those three states - Connecticut, Mass, and NY and beating their gums. Rahn Emanuel who did so well making the streets of Chi-Congo so safe he's traveling to DC to lend his knowledge.
A “Fudd” is a hunter or other sport-only gun owner supportive of gun bans, not seeing any “legitimate purpose” for guns not optimized for pure sport and resembling military or police guns. They’ll be surprised when, having sold out other gun owners, nobody will stand up to protect their deer and duck and “race” guns.
Less the grenade launcher and thumb hole stock, I "used" to have two weapons that meet all of their criteria for an assault weapon. I'm feeling the love.
Any New Yorkers wanting to unload some 5.56mm P-Mags, I'll take them off your hands for $5 per mag. I am also in the market for M193 and M855 projectiles since you can't shoot any longer.
Might be a great opportunity to set up a gun, ammo and accessories shop just across the border from NY.
Anyone who carries a Glock with conviction is not riff-raff and is welcome in TX.
Best move of my life.
Best move of my life.
I told my RINO Senator that I wouldn’t vote for him again even if he ran against Satan himself.
Regards from a potential new felon,
I really feel for you. I live in Central PA and I am afraid we will have the same problems as you. We have RINOs all over the place and commies in our cities. Please have faith that good can overcome evil.
(VIII) A SEMIAUTOMATIC VERSION OF AN AUTOMATIC RIFLE, SHOTGUN OR FIREARM;
I’ll try to keep the faith, ConInPA, but it’s getting harder and harder to do.
Regards,
PS: I have family in NEPA — I love it up there.
holy crap, I just spent an hour reading it, only read about 1/3 of it. Skipped most of mental health and protection order family court stuff. The legislators would barely have had time to read it, let alone understand it or solicit input from their constituents. Truly a disaster for NY gun owners. But hey, if you are out there and need to get rid of your 8 shot shotguns or semi-auto pistols, let’s make a deal...
I guarantee that many up in NY voted for this dumb ass and bozo the clown because their union or what ever told them to do so.
Well they can give up their guns and to hell wiht them seeing as they voted for this.
Now get in those lawsuits like the turd pokers and feces pushers and lovers do when laws are passed and they don;t even have a right according tot he constitution to get married.
we have a right by law and it states shall not be infringed
move south , VA, NC, FL, screw those socialist states
Well, I guess if there’s one small silver lining to this, New York will continue to lose more and more electoral votes in future presidential elections as a rapidly growing number of New Yorkers migrate out of the state.
The new gun control laws are symbolism over substance.
Criminals will buy guns on the black market and they certainly will not register their guns with the state.
Law-abiding citizens can buy them out of state and again they won’t register with the state.
Gun control will be a failure but don’t expect grandstanding anti-Second Amendment politicians like Andrew Cuomo to ever admit it.
Look for the release of a new “study” tomorrow from the dopers at WaPo and the New Yawk Slimes announcing that crime “dropped off sharply” overnight after Adolf Cuomo signed the bill.
