Learned many years ago to take what the government says with a grain of salt, then it may be true.
This should be pounded right thru the thick skulls of stupid, ‘low information’ public school graduates...23% unemployment rate...counting people who do NOT collect unemployment benefits...counting those who have given upon finding work.
ANNNND...NOT counting those who have graduated and can’t find jobs. With those added and those who ran out of unemployment comp and were placed on SSDI, I still contend the REAL unemployment statistics are over 30%.
The truth is that it is now easier for the government to retire workers with social security benefits and other public assistance who are older or non-productive and make openings for the younger people. The real crisis is that older folks will find it harder to work, ever again. The young will eventually obtain some type of employment.
It should be a Republican/Conservative initiative to limit employment at non-profits, these types of employee(s) are really just adding welfare type jobs to donations; charity should not become a major employer for liberal causes - and for conservative causes become extinct....
obambi has got his wish; we are now a third world country. With unemployment this high, riots are inevitable. Look at Greece, Spain and Argentia to see what’s coming.
And for those who have used up all of their unemployment benefits, rolling them over to disability (massive numbers last year), so that they continue not to be counted.
I collect unemployment figures for them, people are begging for more hours, ie: to REALLY be EMPLOYED.
P.S. if you work ONE HOUR in the ‘week’ that is calculated, EVEN BABYSITTING (which they specifically say), you are ‘employed.
As I read stats like this, I keep thinking of the guy I know that had a long term job that paid him six figures. He was then laid off in 2007. After over a year looking for work he’s now working the floor at Lowes for a fraction of that amount.
But he’s not unemployed.
!
Just a reminder. After four entire years Obama has the reported unemployment rate right back where it was when he tok office. That is hardly what I call a recovery.
I calculate the real unemployment rate as those receiving UI payments, those whose payments have run out but are still looking for work, those of working age who are no longer looking for work and receiving some sort of government assistance (including those hardcore welfare cases who have never worked and never will work). If working Americans realized how few their number really is and how many others that they have to support, they’d understand how the deficit has exploded the way it has. And with the baby boomers now entering retirement years and starting to draw on Social Security and Medicare, the demographic vice will tighten around America’s neck. If you add up all the people in America and take out the young, spouses who do not work outside the home, the retired, the disabled, the welfare people, the unemployed and those who earn too little to pay federal tax, the actual number of Americans paying federal income tax is fewer than 100 million. Fewer than a third of Americans are carrying the can for the entire nation. It’s not sustainable and the situation is only going to get worse.
Even these numbers are far too low.
To get a true picture, you need to look at the “Labor Participation Rate”, which is not buried under layers of lies.
Plenty of people who have no job skills also get declared as ‘disabled’, so they play the system for money.
Able bodied people of working age who are employed is now below 64%. That means a greater than 35% unemployment rate.

Yes, but the majority of the people on unemployment don’t report cash jobs.
The unemployment rate for those “low information” voters is even higher. I’m surprised they can’t see it.
It’s ironic that the group who experiences one unseasonably warm day and then gets hysterical about global warming is the same group that can know dozens of unemployed friends and family members, but dismiss that as irrelevant and not think there is anything wrong with the economy or with government employment figures.
Fewer than a third of Americans are carrying the can for the entire nation. Its not sustainable and the situation is only going to get worse.

Perhaps this can be illustrated to low info voters by asking how many thin people can be seen wandering around looking for food. Did you say ‘none.’ Well, who is feeding millions of non-workes? Oh, we are!
