Obama vows to 'vigorously pursue' gun control, prepares to release proposals

President Obama says he plans to make public later this week the details of his plan to tighten firearms laws based on the findings of a White House task force he commissioned in the aftermath of the fatal Connecticut school shooting.

The task force was led by Vice President Joe Biden and held its final White House meeting Monday, talking with members of the House Democratic Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Obama said Monday he planned to meet with Biden to review the findings and will “vigorously pursue” the recommendations in the next few days.

Didn’t he disavow any interest in gun control when he was running in 2008?

YES. And say it to everyone you meet everyday all day.

You’re probably right. Think taxes and bigger government, that’s really what hussein craves. If he can restrict our freedoms and remove some firearms from law abiding citizens hands, even better.

I scanned the article and noticed these phrases:
“possible legislation” regarding bans,
“potential proposals” regarding tighter background checks.

At the end of the article it says even tho some folks think tougher laws are coming, the NRA doesn’t think the laws will get thru congress.

That leaves EO.....

and congressman stockman is on the record saying “if you do that, I’m having articles of impeachment drawn up!”

I think he is going to try and get all the NICS data from every sale since it was instituted, and begin defacto registration. He awakened a sleeping giant and he sees the need to back off...for now.

Mark Levin also calls for Impeachment

If I’m not mistaken, all the NICS does is answer this question:

“Is it OK for Joe schmoe, age, weight, height, eye color, race to buy one of these: long gun, rifle, hand gun”?

Nowhere does it say what type I.E. ak47, Remington 870, etc.

Anybody that’s a FFL have any more info on what gets input into the NICS?

Oh, and by the way, the NICS check worked at Newtown; the perp tried to buy a weapon but was DENIED.

So he STOLE it and the car.

You are not mistaken.

The 4473 is the form you fill out that details all of the information detailing the firearm purchased. Those forms are kept on file at the premises of the FFL that processed the transfer for a minimum of 20 years or until the time they dissolve the business when the forms are sent in.

In order to get the info the EO would have to demand that all FFL's send in their forms, which is a direct violation of law.

Not saying the law seems to matter much anymore, its just what it currently says

I googled the phrase “what information gets put into the NICS database”

One of the website excerpts said

“The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) database lists people who are prohibited possessors.....”

OK anybody worried about already being listed now?

It looks like the info of the prospective buyer put in at the time of the background check only stays long enough to be matched (or not).

If Joe Biden is really engineer over this thing, it will ludicrously backfire. But he’s probably a figurehead of a figurehead.

Many thanks!

Re 4473’s:

I remember many years ago hearing stories of the batfe hassling gun shops for the 4473s.

Re the NICS:

Then again, having done a background check doesn’t necessarily mean the guy or gal actually BOUGHT the weapon, correct?

I mean the credit card coulda gotten declined....

"Then again, having done a background check doesn’t necessarily mean the guy or gal actually BOUGHT the weapon, correct?"

Correct again, in the case of a processed 4473 that did not result in a completed sale the FFL is required to keep the form on file for 5 years. The information on what exact firearm was attempted to purchase may or may not be filled out in section "D" in that case.

All the form would show was John Doe attempted to purchase a handgun, a long gun, or both.

In the case of a CC being denied that final section may be filled out detailing the exact purchase but I personally have never run into that.

Last year I went to Academy and bought a Ruger 38 special. I filled out that form while I was waiting for the FBI check thing to go through. A man came to the counter and wanted to buy “x” gun. The clerk asked for ID which is the first thing a clerk does to sell a gun. The driver's license had a PO Box for an address. The clerk said he couldn't take a PO Box for an address and did he have anything with him that had his actual physical address. The guy looked in his wallet, then said he would go to his truck and see if he could find something there with his physical address. He never came back.

I think the driver's license was a fake because one can't get a driver's license using a PO Box for an address.

That man could not buy a gun. I wondered about this man - why did he have an illegal driver's license?

I am hearing that the NRA is snubbing Gun Appreaciation Day and telling members of congress to boycott it. Are any of you hearing similar things?

From where are you hearing this?

Is this like hearing that Walmart is suspending ammunition sales?

I have no idea why he had the ID he had but the clerk was correct - you don't have to get past the first couple of lines on the 4473 to see that PO box address are not acceptable on the form, I think it may even be in bold :~)
