MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. The images will be vivid, history will be haunting, ghosts will be everywhere.
This is Knute Rockne versus Bear Bryant, Touchdown Jesus versus Dreamland Bar-B-Que, Four Horsemen versus Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Montana versus Joe Namath, and, of course, in the battle of the little guys, Rudy versus Nick.
It will be a football game bathed in a complicated mess of legend, religion and roughhousing, but most folks think Monday's BCS national championship heavyweight fight between Alabama and Notre Dame can be symbolized by a single disparity.

ROLL TIDE! SEC all the way!
Don't bet against the SEC. Evah!
Then what's ya doing on the thread sport?
And that's the kicker - if (when) ND gets behind by 2 scores, they won't have the firepower to respond. Their best shot is if they can somehow punch Bama in the mouth early, then hang on (like Texas A&M did).
My bet: Alabama does the early punching and then wears down the ND defense in the third and fourth quarters. 31-16.
The ghost of Beano Cook lives!
Hype, do to the month layoff BCS championships are never really good football. Both teams have had forever to over prepare, and one will have, and they’ll fall behind early and lose. I’m hoping ND pulls the win just because I’ve gotten sick of the fans of bad SEC teams excusing their team’s horribleness because some SEC teams are really good. SEC needs to lose a couple.
Hammerhead? You get hit with one?
Thank the Lord for Bread and Circuses, or I would be depressed at the state of the world. The Empire will move on forever as long as we can be distracted by sports.
I am having a hard time caring, but I suppose I should.
I am more concerned about the absence of 9 mm ammo at my local gun store.
I wish I was a low-information voter so that I could enjoy the game.
Wow quad post, that’s a lot of not caring. Of course if you really didn’t care you wouldn’t have clicked on the thread. The reality is you want everybody to be impressed with you for not caring, which is pathetic. And there’s nothing wrong with the funny papers now that you mentioned them.
Good point. The tide would be 14 point favorite if played in Tuscaloosa and a 4 point favorite if played at South Bend. Those homefield advantages are awesome !! Doesn’t matter, the Crimson Tide wins 29 to 20.
While I agree with you that Alabama will win, I do think you have too many points in the game 31-16=47. I see it being more like 17-9.
Like the Gators beating the Buckeyes in the football and basketball championships in the same year? :)
Well, I don't give a rat's ass that you don't give a rat's ass that he doesn't give a rat's ass.
I would have loved to see my Duck’s up-tempo offense against either one of these teams. And I might have but for one field-goal in OT that went astray. But that’s the way the pigskin bounces.
So you’re saying if we don’t watch the game tonight America is repaired? Talk about low information voter. The human mind needs it’s relaxation, you get yours looking down your nose at people, we get ours watching sports.
In a bowl game and regardless of conference, the odds are about 2:1 in favor of any team from the Southeast beating an opponent from somewhere else.
Greatest ever was Texas Longhorns vs USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl.
