Associated Press | RALEIGH — Pat McCrory was officially installed as North Carolina’s governor on Saturday, getting sworn in during a low-key, 15-minute ceremony that belied momentous changes marked by new Republican dominance within state government.
Chief Justice Sarah Parker administered the oath of office to the former Charlotte mayor shortly after noon Saturday in the House chambers of the old Capitol building. McCrory kept to themes from his campaign of tackling problems and finding concord in brief remarks after becoming the state’s 74th governor.
“Our goal was not to get a title. Our goal was to lead and to govern and to serve with a purpose, and that’s what we’re going to begin doing today,” McCrory told more than 100 people at the invitation-only event aired on TV statewide. “We’re going to have some tough work ahead of us.” McCrory is the first Republican governor in 20 years since Jim Martin, and the party now controls both the executive and legislative branches for the first time since 1870. The GOP also has expanded majorities in the General Assembly after gaining control of both chambers in 2010.

Our last republican governor gave us something unheard of around the state...fairly honest elections...until Jim Hunt was re-elected. Then it was back to the same ol’ same ol’.
I’ll be really interested to see how the new guy handles this most serious problem. It will tell us a great deal about him.
As a Raleigh, NC resident.....let’s just say that I am guardedly optimistic. This is a great State, but we’re taxed to absolute death. I mean, EVERYthing in this State is taxed; no one tax is huge unto itself, but by God it adds up. With the Dummycrats out of power, maybe.....just maybe.....the Gov and his Pubbie legislature will start undoing the damage.
If the GOP cannot do it in NC , then cannot do it anywhere?
Unfortunately, the "momentous changes" in state government are not being matched in the way NC votes in national elections. NC went to the dark side in 2008, and barely crawled back to the light last Nov. When NC was not called early, we all knew it was going to be a long, disappointing night.
What's with all these states that go Republican in statewide elections, yet betray us all in national ones?

That’s an easy one. The old saying that “all politics is local” is only partially true. We want responsible government where we see it will have a direct impact on our daily lives (State, local level)....but too many uninformed, ignorant, candy-assed Americans feel that Washington, DC is somehow removed...set apart...from their/our daily lives. They have also fallen for the decades-long lie that the Fed is truly “institutionalized” and there’s nothing they can do about it anyway, sooooo....may as well vote for a Marxist mulatto gay idiot who never held a real job in his life to “feel good” about themselves (somehow, for some reason....probably because the media instructed them thusly).
Of course, anyone with half a brain knows better, but there you are.
There was massive voter fraud in North Carolina. All the illegals were organized, probably by SEIU or one of their surrogates, bused to register to vote before elections, then picked up on eleciton day and taken to vote. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t round up 100,000 or more — enough to swing an election. This is what they did in 08 and won.
N.C. has been fed this line before and all that happened was more goods and services saw new taxes and then those taxes increased over the years. If politicians are serious, they produce cuts in government, cuts in programs, cuts in funding new programs, cuts, cuts, cuts, and lower the tax rates. Have witnessed double talk and double talking politicians over and over again. The newly elected sec. of treasury or whatever office she holds should shut up and stop talking about new taxes on services and goods. Never works out well for the taxpayer, though those who do not pay, then do pay something, and perhaps this is why the trial balloon was raised, to see if those who pay nothing are paying attention. This is the only good which could come out of this proposal by the newly elected sec. is those paying nothing would be paying more, as would every other person in the state of N.C. The good, bad, and the ugly of taxation and the politicians who offer solutions, which are normally not solutions.

I too live in this town, and I am more enthused about the legislature - especially some newbies like Dr. Jim Fulghum - than I am the new squish governor. He is a huge improvement to Bev Perdue, maybe the dumbest governor in our history, but he is no Jim DeMint or Scott Walker.
Good riddance to Governor Bev.....and not a moment too soon- her last-minute pardons are going to cause a crime spree.

Having been hearing about some of Gov McC’s picks for Cabinet Positions, I naturally attribute any ‘we’ references to those who have gotten on board with the new Administration.
And God Bless them - they need help to overcome the prior dummyrat evil.

Yes, that's true. However, any honest leader also recognizes that HE is - not WE are - going to have to lead. HE has - not WE have - the title, the responsibility, and such authority as the state consitution provides.
My sister and brother in law had to sell their house in Waynesville and move down to Gainesville near me. They just could no longer pay all the taxes.
I have great hope for North Carolina. It thought it was a fantastic move that Pat appointed Tate to transportation. I like that Forest, a conservative, is Lt Gov.
We seated a bunch of conservative judges.
We have employment and education opportunities on the horizon, and our schools are well guarded. Our home schoolers are a strong force. We have funding for research.
Raleigh is growing and relativity safe, for a downtown area.
I worked the election, and campaigned for Pat, and saw the Democratic machine out in full force, in the churches in Raleigh. I am still sort of confused how Pat got elected, with that powerful vote making machine out in force, but I am hopeful for the future.
I think everyone in NC owns about 3 guns each, and we have high numerous of retired military. I am not sure that our government leaders are going to want to try to take all of our guns.
all swearings in should be brief and low key- witness the waste of time/money/resources presidential inaugurals are.
