T-Ball Faith

January 2, 2013

Whoever dreamed up T-ball is a genius: Every kid on the field gets a taste of the fun and joy of the game before they taste the disappointment of striking out.

In T-ball, a baseball is placed on a rubber tee about waist-high to the 5- and 6-year-old batters. Players swing until they hit the ball and then run. On my first night as a coach, the very first batter hit the ball far into the outfield. Suddenly every player from every position ran to get the ball instead of staying where they were supposed to. When one of them reached it, there was nobody left in the infield for him to throw it to! All the players were standing together—cheering with unrestrained exuberance!

Those who have recently come to know Jesus as Savior have an unrestrained joy that is a delight to be around as well. We rejoice with them, and so do the angels in heaven! (Luke 15:7). New Christians are in love with God and excited about knowing Him and learning from His Word.

Those who’ve been Christians for a long time may get discouraged with the struggles of the Christian life and forget the joy of new-found faith. So take the opportunity to rejoice with those who’ve come to faith. God can use them to inspire you to renew your own commitment to Jesus.

Rejoice, O soul, your debt is paid,
For all your sins on Christ were laid;
We’ve been redeemed, we’re justified—
And all because the Savior died. —D. DeHaan
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. —Psalm 51:12

Read: Luke 15:1-7

The joy of the Lord is your strength. —Nehemiah 8:10

Well, I watch (flipping between channels) Twilight Zone and Storage Wars and my DLhusband fell asleep, then I woke him up just in time to open champagne and yell out the window Happy New Year!!!
Ok, now I’ll take the test.

I tried answering the questions as best as I could... For instance, my dinner was leftover take-out Mexican food, and my actual drink was just water. Actually, I'm an amazingly boring person, however, the quiz was pretty close, I think...

You Appreciate Honesty
You are casual and unpretentious. You don't have a lot of high expectations... you just expect to have fun.

You are responsible and restrained. You've gotten far in your life from being disciplined.

Right now, you value your own needs most. You believe it's time to take care of yourself.

You are compassionate and sensitive. It's likely that you are too hard on yourself at times.

I realize it’s not exactly a controlled sample, but in asking around of people in my area of all ages, very few of them seem to be going out drinking and partying on New Year’s Eve. I asked a number of young people as well as the middle-aged. There was not much traffic on the roads or in town as in years past, the liquor store was relatively quiet considering, and people were not in the clothing stores buying clothes for parties. I’m not sure if this was because the economy is so terrible or if people are just bored with being drunk as recreation or if the proliferation of cops on the road makes it too risky. Everyone said to me, “I don’t want to go out with all the drunks on the road,” but there seemed to be very few on the roads, drunk or otherwise.

Pretty good analysis since I only answered 2 out of the 4 questions! LOL! (I only drink diet coke and I don't do resolutions. :) I guess that's pretty honest!)

Good evening, all! Happy New Year.

On this date in History (the date I'm actually typing, not the one in the title thread, sorry 'bout that): In 1892, Annie Moore of County Cork, Ireland stepped off the steamship Nevada and was the first person to pass through Ellis Island,

which would later give people excuses to post songs about it: Celtic Thunder,"Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears"

or if you prefer, a slightly longer version with more orchestration: Celtic Women's version of the same song.
