LIVING PRAYER
Brother Lawrence was a monk who lived almost 300 years ago and worked in the galley of his monastery. He wrote a book, The Practice of the Presence of God, which today is considered a classic in the area of Christian devotion. Brother Lawrence spent much of his time in the monastery scullery scrubbing pots and pans. He also had a collateral duty as the monastery cobbler. In these jobs, he said, he learned to glorify God in simple tasks and to pray with his hands. By bringing to each small job the best of his ability, he developed the practice of living prayer. Whether he was bustling around the galley, repairing shoes or kneeling in prayer, he learned to grow spiritually as well as mentally and to cultivate a never-ending, ever-deepening sense of God's presence.
Each day you do hundreds of small tasks. Perhaps you feel at times unrecognized or unnoticed, or that your job is insignificant in the great scope of things. The fact is it doesn't matter what you do or what position you hold. What really matters is the spirit in which you work, and how you approach your work. Brother Lawrence teaches us an important and very wise lesson: even the simplest tasks, when done to the best of your ability, are important in God's eyes. Whenever you bring to any job the best of yourself, your fullest mind, an honest heart, and a striving for excellence, then your work, no matter what you do, becomes like a living prayer to God.

It certainly doesn't! I'll bet he can't sight-sing , either!
I thought his fave was the "Internationale" anyway.

No, I don’t he ever learned to sight-sing. He was too busy memorizing the Koran.

"The Internationale" from "Reds"
Did you know that Reagan wrote Beatty to thank him for making this movie? That last scene where Maureen Stapleton sets Beatty straight on what is to come in Russia resonated.

Good afternoon, Kathy!
*HUGS*
We're at 35F right now with winds at 11 mph. Luckily no precip in the picture. It's set to go down to 27F tonight.
Waiting for the Big Game to start. I probably won't stay up for the whole thing - I have to get up early tomorrow to get in to the Office.

Good afternoon, Maestro! I never saw "Reds" - I think the last film I saw with Warren Beatty in it was "McCabe and Mrs. Miller." I liked the Leonard Cohen songs in it.

Has communism EVER worked?
Not on this planet.
(I am listening to “Brindisi” right now. You should hear my parody of THAT one. LOL
It lists all the 57 Islamic states, and then suggest the PA take their pick for a new homeland. I am SO Naughty!)

"It lists all the 57 Islamic states"
Aha! So that's what the One was thinking of when he said there were 57 states!

That is my theory too!
Either that, or he was secretly having an affair with Teresa Heinz and was daydreaming about 57 varieties.

What a great story...did any of the opera folks talk to you?
Sorta like one of those “flash mobs”, or whatever they are called at the mall. Did the patrons enjoy it?
