Time to Contact Gannett Board For Reaction to Invasion of Privacy to Legal Gun Permit Holders?
Gateway ^ | December 29, 2012 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 12/29/2012 3:09:11 PM PST by george76

On Sunday, liberal New York newspaper The Journal News published the names and addresses of legal permit holders in two counties online and in print. If that wasn’t bad enough, this weekend, the Gannett owned Journal News announced that it will publish more names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits in the New York area.

Enough is Enough.

Two other outlets have posted names and personal contact info for the employees of this Gannett owned paper. Isn’t it about time the Gannett Board of Directors were contacted for their official reaction to this controversial practice? Do these board members think this is appropriate and ethical? It would be interesting to hear from these board members.

Maybe someone should contact these board members and ask them. Because of the holiday weekend you may have trouble reaching them in their offices so you may want to try them at home.

...

It would be interesting to run a background check on them, too, and look for DUI’s, unpaid support, etc. All in the public interest, of course . . . Especially since the Journal News is doubling down.

Drango~:” Good grief. Follow the money. Contact the advertisers.
Duh.”

Drango has it right !!
Follow the money .. and let those who advertize through the papers that you are not going to purchase at their stores.

Every permit holder is a private citizen.
When they list the name and address of permit holders ,they are making you a “public figure” against your wishes .
That will make you more vulnerable to a home burglary , since the lawful have no interest ,and the unlawful don’t respect laws to begin with .

I know I am in the minority here,,don’t flame me. I’m a good Freeper.

I really don’t care if people know my name/addy and if I have a gun,, I hope they think I have a gun! It really doesn’t bother me a bit. I think gun owners should create a flag to fly on their property that says “Hell Ya,,I own weapons,,bring it!” I don’t see why this is intimidating.

Someone may want to point out to Gannet that while their interest is in exposing gun owners,,they are also exposing addresses who have no registered weapons and making those homes targets for those who are armed,,just wondering if they thought about that!

As long as we are going to be pasting scarlet letters onto people, how about an interactive map of all women who have had abortions?

I'm not really advocating it, I am just pointing out that this is where we are headed, if they keep it up.

A lot of information is actually public. Time to go into county records and pull copies of mortgage records with SSNs, drivers licenses, dates of birth and so on.

Depending on the source most of that can be obtained through public records.

I’ve got so many pop up/ad blockers it hard to tell...here is one www.westchestertoyota.com

David Lee? Apparently he’s the General Sales manager. Call him at 888-224-4595 and politely ask him to stop advertising.

(No I don’t know where he lives. And no I don’t know the owner.)

Perhaps it’s time to contact people in the area NOT listed as having permits and asking them “is your house un-armed? The Gannett papers say you’re a sitting duck”;

Maybe this will produce angry phone calls to the paper FROM the un-armed citizens starting to feel the paper has MADE THEM vulnerable.

Publicize where their kids go to school. That ought to get their attention.

LOL...from Westchester Toyota Facebook page...FOLLOW THE MONEY
Do this 100 times, repost on all gun club/NRA sites and the board will listen.

We thank all our fans for their feedback on the recent article posted in the Journal News. Unfortunately due to contractual obligations we are unable to cease our advertising with them or their website, Lohud.com, regardless of how we feel about the published list. We hope that you understand our situation and do not hold it against our business. As you can see by our Facebook page, Westchester Toyota is actively trying to make Westchester County a better place to live and challenges our fans to do the same.

1) Make a list of SSNs and print multiple copies.

2) Drive your pick-up to the "day laborer" section of the Home Depot parking lot.

3) Hand out the aforementioned copies to the crowd.

4) (optional) Drive home and open a cold one.

Maybe it’s time to do a spoof. That is, create a webpage with a map of “everything Muslim” in the NYC area, and attribute the webpage to The Journal News, with a disclaimer in small print on the bottom of the page.

As an extra ha-ha, include a mouse-over on the map that puts a “terrorist detainment center” in Central Park.

Gannett won’t do squat!
They started in Upstate NY, and did exactly the same thing in the Rochester, NY Democrat & Chronicle back in the 70’s. They had a five or six full page listing of every CC permit holder in the county - full names and titles plus address - around 7000 or so listings. Then, as now, the excuse was “It’s public knowledge.”

Not sure what the answer is, but this type of usage of our public records may be legal, but to my mind is unlawful.

This is a classic Fascist intimidation tactic. You haven’t been intimidated (yet) but consider another variation...

Here in Washington state the left published the names and addresses of folks who signed petitions for a proposed referendum. The next thing the lefties did was to visit homes of signers and harass them - including many seniors who are more vulnerable than you or me.

There is no legitimate reason for any of this. There is no public interest being served. For them to do any of this is purely provocative and vindictive. It is harassment (even if you don’t personally feel harassed). It is another step in a program of intimidation. It needs to be met head-on.

Don’t lose sight of the forest for the trees.

Gannett won’t do squat!

Perhaps. But the attack on the board/reporters/editors is unfocused.

One major advertiser from a publication such as the Arizona Daily news, calling and saying they are canceling their advertisements won't make a blip. 10 advertisers will get their attention, and with 82 newspapers 100 advertisers defecting is very feasible.

As long as the focus is away from the money whatever is done won't make a difference.

Are you a woman who is being stalked by her ex? Were you raped and want your location protected? There are any number of reasons that someone wishes to keep their location private. Many gun owners don’t wish to have their home robbed specifically for the firearms that may be there. Besides, it’s nobodies F’n business what people have in their house!!! They haven’t broken any laws.

I don’t see why this is intimidating.

Such a list will be a gold mine for criminals looking to steal firearms. All they have to do is wait till the occupant leaves. I don't know about other places, but around here letting anyone know that you have guns is an open invitation to burglars.
