Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter became the latest politician to speak out against the National Rifle Association’s proposal to put armed guards in every American school to dissuade incidents such as the horrific shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., joining New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in his Mayors Against Illegal Guns initiative.
Nutter, a staunch advocate of gun control, called the idea proposed by NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre a “dumb-ass idea.”
Nutter, a Democrat, was speaking about a gunman who shot and killed two firefighters in Webster, N.Y., Monday after they arrived at a house fire.
“We need to ban assault weapons. We need to ban the high-capacity clips and magazines. We need serious background information system upgrade," the Democrat said Wednesday.
“I guess out of last week’s bizarre press statement—it wasn’t a press conference—I guess that Mr. [Wayne] LaPierre would say that firefighters need to have armed guards go with them. I think it just shows that that was a completely dumb-ass idea from the start,” he then told MSNBC. “The American public has really had enough and that we’re not going to allow what has happened in the past to go on.”
“People need to demand a plan, and cities all across America certainly need to join this fight,” he said.
All of the press must be affecting them since they're referring to both clips and magazines in the same sentence. Usually they're interchangeable to the uninitiated.
That being said, do they even make charging clips larger than 5 rounds? Most of my 7.62x54R and 8MM load nicely into charging clips for my Mosins and Mausers, respectively, but anything larger than 5 rounds, I have to imagine, would be a little unruly if not downright impossible to use.
Let’s get rid of all the metal detectors and security guards by the doors of the congressional and senatorial offices then. There’s no need for them, and they’re a dumbass idea anyway.

It makes more sense than having a nation filled with free-ranging crazies and convicted murderers. But if you want to have the latter, you’re going to need the former.
Does Mayor Nutter ever use armed guards, including police officers? May his hypocrisy come back on his own head.

The sniper in Webster, NY was a convicted killer. He still got a gun. Nothing Nutter bleats about would have made a bit of difference. Typical for gun-grabbers.

The filthy hypocritical PIGS of the elite political and Hollyweird class have their armed body guards, but it’s a “dumbass” idea for the kids to be defended with arms.

Sidwell Friends has more armed guards than a FOB in Af/Pak. All I can say for this sterling example of “our elite” is he should thank god for the “paycheck conservatives” who comprise his false opposition, otherwise he would be lucky to get a job as a squeegy man.
It is a dumb ass idea for about 95% of schools in America. The fact is that the number of mass shootings in schools is such a miniscule fraction of a percent that you can never effectively eliminate them because we’re already left with the random. Other than that there’s the gang violence which is completely separate.
Eliminate the gun free zones and call it good. Make the potential killers roll the dice on whether they’ll face opposition.
How about in response to the Rochester shooting we discuss executing people who beat their grandmother to death with a hammer?
Nutter is just another Philly moron made mayor. I remember when Mayor Wilson Goode’s response to the MOVE movement was to bomb their row home and burn down over 70 homes in a West Philly neighborhood. There simply has not been a decent mayor of Philadelphia since Rizzo.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Philly we fled the Northeast for Northwest GA 3 years ago. Best move of my life.
