NBC News has a problem. The question is whether it is a legal one or a journalistic one.
-snip-
The legal problem here is nearly self-confessed. D.C. code plainly prohibits magazines with capacities exceeding 10 rounds of ammunition. Of this regulation, Meet the Press cannot possibly claim ignorance or oversight.

No matter which or what, he will never be charged with anything, as he is one of the elites, above-the-laws, and works for NBC.
He can always claim 1st amendment rights as a member of the press.........................
It’s all three. Ape-face Gregory could use 6 months in the DC jail to ponder his thoughts about gun control.
....and/or his producer.................
Quentin Tarantino type fantasy can become plausible when CBS or CNN runs it at 6:00PM. A marketing scam like Barack Obama can start to seem real and his message of nothing becomes tangible when enough editorial license is taken by the "journalists".
If David Gregory was black, he would have been arrested by the DC police days ago.
Legally, isn’t this no different than the idiot bringing a Gram of Cocaine onto the show?
Actually, this is probably worse for Gregory, because at least with the Cocaine, he could claim that it was something else. In this case, there isn’t much left to doubt.
He was clearly holding a 30 round AR15/M4 GI Mag. (I have lots of them) I wonder where he got it, and what he did with it after the taping for the show was done.
David Gregory broke the law and should be held accountable. Otheriwse he’s just making the point that we’re not enforcing existing laws so it’s pointless to pass any new ones.
Please put me on his jury! It’s ass-banging jail for him if I have anything to say about it.
(Yawn)
For the record, I am totally pro 2A, but an empty mag used as a prop is hardly worthy of discussion. I’d feel the same if the mag was loaded, as long as the firearm wasn’t in the room. DC’s gun laws may be silly, but getting upset over this is even worse. Yes I hate all the gun-grabbers crawling out of the woodwork, but this story is a joke.
Trying to make something out of nothing is a libtard tactic, and one’s reduces credibility.
Back when I worked in the media, One of our editors had a delusion that his career was just like the movies where hard news is all a paper does and truth is supreme. For a few years I pointed out article after article to him on our AP feed that was pure opinion fronting itself as journalism.
Every time he had an excuse as to how the AP was the guiding light of integrity and would never interject opinion as fact. Any reporter to do so would be quickly disassociated from that paragon of ethical reportage.
The day the AP circulated a memo that henceforth ‘OPINION’ was to be a normal part of their reporting and acceptably ethical, I thought the man would have a stroke.
And the “I told ya’ so’s’ did not stop for months ;)
Ethrical journalism is open to the whims of the ‘ethical journalist’.
Double standard.
I’m sure David Gregory and his fellow liberals at NBC appreciate your show of support.
Ding ding ding! That's a winner!
That and they perceive themselves as above the law, above the rest of us. They "know best" what's needed for the "little people" (that would be us in their eyes). But they don't think they need to be held to the same standard.
Its a law - agree with it or not - it is the law. If he held up a bag of heroin or an iPad playing child porn, would there even be any discussion over charging him or not?
It’s really quite simple: “reporters” consider themselves, like Dem politicians, to be above the laws that govern the rest of us.
Imagine what would happen to someone who was black and had that mag in his possession on a DC street. He would have been arrested immediately and his home would have been searched by now.
The mindset you describe is exactly the way it is. And you best believe the small town reporter has it too. The MSM has no monopoly on it. It is part and parcel of the modern journalism mindset and it is pretty much taught in J school.
So, you don't believe in holding Democrats to their own standards? Interesting....
It’s not nothing. These guys obviously know the law in DC, and on national TV, they deliberately violated it, on purpose, because of who they are, they believed they could get away with it.
They are liberal elites and they don’t believe the gun laws that the rest of us would be jailed for violating, apply to them.
THAT is why people are calling on this putz to be prosecuted.
When libtards do stuff like this they believe they are untouchable and don’t have to live under the same laws THEY ACTIVELY FORCE on the rest of us.
That is reason enough to demand prosecution of the liberals who knowingly violate laws you or I would have no mercy from being spared prosecution on.
If Wayne LaPierre appeared on this show, and used an empty 30 round AR-15 mag as a personal prop, there would be no question he would be charged. But Wayne would never do anything that stupid, for one, and while not agreeing with the DC law, would not deliberately violate it just to have something to have in his hands during an interview. If a visual was needed he could bring his own graphic or a file photo of a magazine could be displayed.
You can bet that mag has already left D.C.
