A newspaper in New York has received a wave of criticism from its readers after publishing the names and addresses of all of the individuals with handgun or pistol permits in its coverage area. Hundreds of residents in New Yorks Westchester and Rockland counties were surprised to find their names and addresses listed on a map posted by The Journal News on Sunday. Users can click any dot on the map to see which of their neighbors has a permit for a gun. The map sparked more than 500 comments from readers within a day of its appearance on the website, many of them voicing outrage at the papers decision to make the information public. This is CRAZY!! why in the world would you post every licensed gun owner information?? What do you hope to accomplish by doing this. This is the type of thing you do for sex offenders not law abiding gun owners. What next? should i hang a flag outside my house that says I own a gun? I am canceling my subscription with your paper today!!! said commenter Curtis Maenza. How about a map of the editorial staff and publishers of Gannett and Journal News with names and addresses of their families
, wrote commenter George Thompson.

The criminals now have a better idea of which homes not to commit hot burglaries at....
Imagine that, a paper publishing for criminals (maybe some can read) all of the "safety zones" where they can rape and plunder with no worries.
How can I get my name on this list?
that’s the attitude that will thwart these libs’ attempts at intimidation. if these lists were published nationwide, permits would skyrocket as people off the lists came to feel exposed as defenseless
The editors’ names and addresses should be published.
Somebody at Wordpress.com posted the name address and phone number of the publisher. Plus went on zillow.com and posted pictures of the outside & inside of her million dollar house. Now any criminal that is thinking about robbing a house they have the floor plan. And, I ‘m sure there are now guns in this house.
“And, I m sure there are now guns in this house.”
and in Feinstein’s house as well.

It seems the reporter who wrote it has a S&W 686 and a permit to keep at home in New York.
A list of the gun ownership status of the editorial board, writers and owners of this paper should be compiled, and published, along with home addresses, to a website. A link should be sent to each of those listed. FOIA being sacrosanct, maybe there’s a burglar chat room that would be interested in this list too.
I live in one of the two counties where this newspaper is published. The mental midgets there thought they would strike a blow for gun control by doing this... as if owning a gun is a stigma. Earth to Newspaper Pigmys: Most people who own guns are not trying to hide it from anyone. All you have succeeded in doing is to advertise to criminals those households they should stay away from and, by deduction, all those households they can safely target.
I’d say a lawsuit to bankrupt the newspaper is in order. That’s walking over the line IMO and done to punish the handgun owners in the recent anti-gun climate. Their intention was clear. Now they will find out there are
consequences when you engage in such idiocy.
I bet he NEVER writes a stupid article like that again...lol
How many crimes have been committed by these legally licensed permit holders? Self defense is not a crime.
Back in the 80's, when car phones were starting to take off, you could either spend hundreds of $$$ on the real thing, or spend $2 at the local auto parts store for a fake antenna to glue on your back window.
I would gladly pay $2 to get on that list of gun owners.
(PS to clever burglars reading this post. Don't even think about it. I own an attack Beagle.)
Don’t ever underestimate the stupid of our classically trained professional journalists. And certainly don’t bet against their stupid.
I’m on the list.
