We're seeing more and more of these petition threads. Do you feel comfortable signing a petition at White House website?
I don't.
They claim that Obama will consider the petitions when X number of signatures are logged.
I think they're collecting names.

Those petitions are a totally bogus waste of time. If you want to accomplish something petition your state house.

I agree, basil. Any of us who are active in politics are already on the list somewhere. I’ve signed DC petitions and no men in black came to my door.

Hey newbie, I'm neither an Obama copulator or a doom and gloom. I am merely knowledgable of what is going on with our finances, politics, and social society. Do you think all is rosy and fine right now? We are in one hell of a mess that we'll be lucky to turn around in our lifetime if at all.
I went there to sign it and I realised this was just a data gathering operation.
They will most likley be visiting and collecting guns from the signers.

I'm not picking on you personally, but when I see comments like that, I just have to wonder what on earth the poster's motivation is for saying such a thing. If all is lost, and the country has died - and there's nothing we can do about it - just what is the point of Free Republic?

i thot about it as well but at some point you take a stand. I’m not sure if this is the time but i signed and created one. mebe its time to enumerate a new charter.

There's no reason to shrink from that challenge (even if it is true). It would be far better to give them 1M names then to fulfill their fantasy that nobody cares about the 2A.
I do. Giving them your name and town (they can look up the rest) means you have chosen to speak out (1A) on the 2A. They can go ahead and feed 100k names into the computer and try to do some "data mining" or worse. But it would be much better if it were 1M names than 10k names.

There’s no reason to let the SPLC control the 1A. Perhaps going through the WH website isn’t the best way to fight that, but it’s a way.
It is just a way to get angry people to let off a little steam. Don’t want the pressure cooker blowing up before it’s time.
