Michael Moore Hours After Newtown Massacre: 'Guns Don't Kill People! Americans Kill People!'
Democracy Now! aired an excerpt of an address made by filmmaker Michael Moore delivered just hours after the Newtown massacre.
Moore criticized America for the violence, saying that "guns dont kill people, Americans kill people," and then pointed to U.S. wars, drone strikes and "other forms of violence."
Transcript below: MICHAEL MOORE: Earlier today, a crazy man went to an elementary school and attacked 22 children in China. A few hours before Connecticut, an elementary school was attacked in China by an insane man, and 22 children were his victims. But all he had was a knife. Total number of dead in the Chinese elementary school? Zero.
I hope you dont mind, but Id like to just say a few words about what happened today, because Ive been concerned about this issue for a long time. Yes, we need more gun control. Yes, we need free mental health services in this country. But I really believe that even if we had better gun control laws and better mental health, that we would still be the sort of sick and twisted, violent people that weve been for hundreds of years, that its something thats just in our craw, just in our DNA. And to get that out of our DNA is going to take a lot more than passing a bill in Albany or D.C. Thats not going to do it.

Seems we need some grand compromise- allowing the good guys more latitude to be armed (such as teachers and pilots) and restricting much more the availability of high capacity arms.
Someone should super glue his mouth shut. Then, a nostril. Then, maybe, the other one.
Heard this on Democracy Now yesterday. Nothing surprises me anymore.

If I don't have a right to own high-capacity arms, I can't consent to have the government own high-capacity arms, either.
There will be no compromise, grand or otherwise, on that point.
Duh, it’s easier to kill someone with a gun than a knife. But you must ask where he’s going with th argument. He seems to think there’s something buried in our cultural DNA that makes us Americans extraspecially killhappy. Or maybe it’s just the ability to privately own a gun out of which all corruption follows. I don’t know what Moore’s argument is, or whether he’s actually thought one out. Seems to be U.S.=bad, and that’s it. You don’t get that from the knife=less deadly truism.
It may be a consequence of our freedom, at least our freedom to own guns. But then let’s compare the entire run of communist China to the US in a comparable period. See whether relative freedom or despotism is preferable. It’s not even close. In his “documentary” Bowling for Columbine Moore went back through all of our history and tried to set Columbine up as typical. Let us see what is typical of Chinese communism. Nonfatal stabbing fits, or mass starvation/rolling over citizens with tanks?
I don’t feel it’s reasonable to excuse our mass shootings by saying, hey, at least our government didn’t kill 65 million people in the last 60 or so years. Although there is some connection between a lack of mass murder and the right to bear arms. But Moore brought it up, with his literal blame America campaign.
Michael Moore - what an idiot!
Fat, dumb and psychotic is no way to go through life, son.
He is just so brave and edgy. Any day now he’ll point out that Muslims also kill people. Am I right? Any day now...
“If I don’t have a right to own high-capacity arms, I can’t consent to have the government own high-capacity arms, either.”
That is the crux of the arguement that many people just don’t get. A government, any government, with a monopoly on violence, in time, will employ it on any person, persons, organizations and/or groups of people deemed to be “enemies of the state”.
What’s coming down the road will be policies that are nothing more than arrogance, envy and elitist conceit cloaked in altruism.
Would it be so wrong of me to wish this porcine parade float would spontaneously combust?
Donuts don’t make people fat slobs!!! People who eat too many donuts make people fat slobs!!!
Maybe he should just move to that idylic non violent country called Cuba........(Cuber?)
They have a monopoly on the LEGAL USE of violence.
They cannot be allowed to have a blanket monopoly on the use of violence.
Hmmm... he wants to go down this road of pointing at WHICH humans are most responsible for “gun violence”?
Hmmm... what subset of Americans is disproportionately represented in violent crime statistics...
Interesting thing to look up, I’m sure.
Thanks for the brain-fart Michael. Carry on being the village idiot!
Would the fat boy prefer people died like this? 167 dead.

Segee’s confession
In 1950, Robert Dale Segee of Circleville, Ohio, claimed he was responsible for setting the circus fire. Segee, a roustabout for the show from June 30 to July 14, 1944, when he was about 14 years old, said he had a nightmare in which an Indian riding on a “flaming horse” told him to set fires. He further claimed that after this nightmare his mind went blank, and that he did not come out of this state until the circus fire had already been set.
It was said Segee fit the description of a serial arsonist right out of a psychiatrist’s textbook.
“They have a monopoly on the LEGAL USE of violence.
They cannot be allowed to have a blanket monopoly on the use of violence.”
Presently they do not have a monopoly on the legal use of violence. They share it with us. They may try and define the terms, but it is shared never the less. This is what this whole thing is about. They want to create the monopoly.
And if that comes to pass, God help us.
They’re also immensely more suitable for stopping a mass killing spree.
