Lawmakers and educators in Texas say the way to guard against school shootings like last Friday's at a Connecticut elementary school is to make sure teachers can shoot back.
While the rampage that left 20 young children and six adults dead in a small Northeastern community has sparked a national debate on gun control, assault weapons and a culture of violence, David Thweatt, superintendent of the 103-student Harrold Independent School District in Wilbarger County, said his teachers are armed and ready to protect their young charges.
We give our Guardians training in addition to the regular Texas conceal-and-carry training, Thweatt, whose school is about three hours northwest of Dallas, told FoxNews.com. It mainly entails improving accuracy You know, as educators, we dont have to be police officers and learn about Miranda Rights and related procedures. We just have to be accurate.
Thweatt is the architect of The Guardian Plan, a blueprint for arming school staff, including teachers, that may be catching on, at least in the Lone Star state. Teachers there are allowed to have weapons in the classroom, as Thweatt's faculty members do, but State Attorney General Greg Abbott suggested Monday that lawmakers may consider ways to encourage the practice statewide.
"Bearing arms whether by teachers and guards and things like that will be all a part of more comprehensive policy issues for the legislature to take up in the coming weeks," Abbott said. "And you can be assured in the aftermath of what happened in Connecticut that these legislators care dearly about the lives of students at their schools and they will evaluate all possible measures that are necessary to protect those lives," he said.

And BTW, kids down here learn to shoot at an early age too.
Make teacher’s colleges give classes in marksmanship as a requirement for certification.
That oughta make libs head spin.
The only way to stop a potential mass shooting from becoming a actual mass shooting is to shoot the attacker. That can’t happen if only the attacker is armed. Mass shooting will stop quickly if there is a string of them ended in the shooters taking a dirt nap.
Yessir, when that whack job was shooting out that glass at the security door, there should have been return fire going the other way.
Gun free zones are easy soft targets for these people.
Therein lies the real answer. Let States handle gun laws within the bounds of the 2nd Amendment.
Let Texas liberalize concealed carry and put an end to the gun-free-zone ... and let California ban “assault weapons”, high capacity magazines, and semi-automatic handguns and whatever else. I really don’t mind if liberals want to runt their own states into the ground. Just leave mine alone.

Who gets called when these things happened? Armed cops. Since they’re usually not on scene it gives the killer plenty of time for whatever they want to do.
Having someone on site is the only solution. I’d compromise and say anyone at the K-12 school that wants one has to do even more training than a CCW in Texas. Even psychological exams and so on.. They should also get a yearly bonus for it as well.
“You know, as educators, we dont have to be police officers and learn about Miranda Rights and related procedures. We just have to be accurate.”
Cut it. Print it. Frame it.
LOVE it!
At VT, the shooter offed himself when he heard the police breaking in downstairs. Assuming the media got this right, supposedly the Newtown shooter offed himself when he heard the first responder sirens. These evil ones do themselves in when they think the police are close or they meet resistance - they do not intend to be captured. A lot of lives will be saved if there are no gun-free zones and people can defend themselves with deadly force.
We should be very seriously reassuring Obama and liberals everywhere that it is time to end the gun control debate for ever. Constitutional gun ownership and use is what “We the people” are going to do, period.
Great photos! Israel leads the way again in protecting its’ citizens.
In my son’s classroom in Gush Etzion, there is always one teacher who specifically makes sure to pack a pistol. This is going back to Grade 1. Now he’s in 4th. It’s a good idea for troubled times and places.
that get those metrosexual boys up in NY City all in a tizzy, hell their little panties right now are twisting with seeing people outsdie their elitist circle actually think defending ones self wiht a gun is better than waiting for cops .
All these media folks asking why we need guns, frigging dopes all of them and think we all shoudl live how they live up there.
What are the chances once teachers and admins are armed that kids will taunt, threaten and slap those teachers and admins and be threatened by parents with lawyers for those teachers and admins who commit threatening actions or worse.
This kind of slaughter can only occur in a zero tolerance zone.
Schools are the most obvious destination for someone bent on committing murder on a grand scale.
You don’t see this kind of violence at Biker bars.
“...I really dont mind if liberals want to runt their own states into the ground. Just leave mine alone....”
But they won’t, Doc...you know that.
They’ll keep hounding and hounding until they either get what they want, or are totally crushed.
Remember their definition of peace: “absence of opposition to our goals.”
Funny...that’s the same definition of “peace” as the communists use.
Couldn’t be...Nah..... just pure coincidence.
Take at look a DVD called “Agenda: Grinding America Down”
They’ll never stop.
Most of the time they get there after the carnage has occurred, and can only write up the necessary reports .
At least if someone is armed, they have a fighting chance.
The real parallel is to sudden cardiac arrest and defibrilators.
Used to be that the only defribrilators were on adavanced life support paramedic units. When seconds count it doesn’t do much good if help is minutes away.
Now AEDs are everywhere...including schools.
