Correct me if I am wrong, but, the M-16’s used by the military are not fully automatic firearms.
The current M-16’s (look’s like an AR-15) have a selector switch, This selector switch has 3 positions, SAFE, SEMI (semi-automatic), BURST (3 rounds fired for each trigger pull).
They let Dukakis drive a tank.

“Hmmmm ..?? There is NO SUCH THING as an “asault rifle”.
Here in moronic California an “assault rifle” is categorized by what “it looks like.”
Since ordinary citizens don’t get to own fully automatic rifles, the morons here have legislated as “assault rifles,” anything that looks similar to rifles carried by the military. You can own an AR-15 provided that the mag is attached and it doesn’t have a “pistol grip” as I recall, but functionally, it’s no different than a semi auto “sporting version” of the same gun. As I said, they are morons who are simply looking for any artifice to deny citizens their right to a weapon of their choice.
If you do it with a CO2 pellet gun, is that an assault rifle?
If you put a ballbearing in their head with a Wrist Rocket, is it an assault weapon?

Since the poll appears to be talking about semi-automatic military pattern (read black ugly, good magazine capacity)rifles will freep no to the poll.
Of course, the actual assault rifle is the full auto variant provided to the military and law enforcement only and if available through a Class 3 dealer, is among the most heavily regulated, taxed, and EXPENSIVE (nothing new since the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 (also known as “McClure-Volkmer”)

Actually,"Sturm" means "storm" in English and "gewhr" means "gun or rifle". So "storm rifle" is a more literal translation. Don't trust translation engines on the web or anything coming from the media :) I ran it through a online translation engine and it came back with assault rifle. My guess is there is some liberal mapping the translations.
I am sure that Strum, Ruger & Company doesn't want to be translated to Assault, Ruger & Company.

Isn’t an assault rifle a type of rifle that has that thingy just before the trigger that you wrap your hand around and that has that other thingy at the end of the barrel that hides the flash from the shooter?
Of course, a folding or adjustable stock will make it even deadlier.
