My dad was stationed in Germany when the Airlift started. They all thought it would be over with in a few days.

Worth The Risk
December 17, 2012
What would one give in exchange for a new iPad? One 17-year-old boy gave a kidney! Apparently, he couldnt afford an iPad and wanted one so badly that he was willing to risk surgery.
Stephen, in Acts 7, took a serious risk, but it was for proclaiming the good news about Jesus. While performing miracles, he was seized, falsely accused of blasphemy against God and the Mosaic law, and brought before the high priest (6:8-14). In response to a question from the high priest (7:1), Stephen took a risk and preached a sermon he knew his hearers would not like. He said that throughout Israels history, the nation had repeatedly rejected Gods messengers. And now, they had rejected the Messiah.
Stephens sermon provoked a strong reaction. They cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; and they cast him out of the city and stoned him (vv.57-58). Why would Stephen risk his life to preach about Jesus? He desperately wanted his hearers to know that because of Jesus death and resurrection, they no longer needed to live under the law but could live under grace and forgiveness (6:13-15; Eph. 2:8-9). Jesus died so that we may have eternal life.
Lord, You have done so much for us. You give us
our very breath and blessing upon blessing.
We give ourselves back to You to use
to spread the glorious gospel of Christ. Amen.
A Christians life is a window
through which others can see Jesus.

The Berlin Airlift was always inspiring to me. I remember reading about it in my history books in elementary school! This was in the late 50s and the books rendered an accurate and positive account of the operation. These days, its probably not even mentioned in the history books used to indoctrinate our children into the Socialist collective.
The Berlin Airlift demonstrates all that is good in America. Our Air Force boys faced considerable danger making the run into Berlin, not only due to difficult landing conditions at the Berlin airports, but due to persistent harassment from Soviet fighters while flying through the corridors.
Operation Little Vittles is particularly illustrative of the goodness and generosity of the American GI. The Candy Bomber was an individual airman who acted exactly as countless American GIs would in his position.
The exploits and generosity shown by members of the American Armed Forces during the Berlin Airlift and on many other occasion is inspiring and makes me proud to be an American.

I think I gave you incorrect information before. my father IL was part of the airlift but he actually delivered mail several weeks before the official lift.
My husband said he would check the log books, but remembers hearing stories about a guy who tied chocolate bars to handkerchiefs and dropped them out of the airplanes before they landed.
Oh, a silly part was that my mother IL went into labor early with my husband and my father IL heard about it on his radio, so because he was flying a Douglas air craft they named him Douglas (really glad he wasn’t flying a Boeing)

My thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by the senseless tragedy.
My heart aches for them.
The shooter's family as well.
Other than that, we had a nice weekend but weather was kind of dreary.
More rain today but it's needed.
Finished cards and shopping.
Not to wrap the gifts. That has to be done tonight.
