DFL Rep. Keith Ellison appeared on TPT's Almanac tonight to discuss the shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut. During the interview, Ellison argued for greater gun control measures.
"The NRA (National Rifle Association) is strong and many of them (members of Congress) take the position that any gun position is going to lead to the position of taking away of all guns," Ellison said. "This is not rational. We need sane, sensible gun regulation and we need it now."
Ellison says his top initiatives would be to address high capacity clips that hold multiple rounds of bullets and greater background checks that require people to submit to background checks before purchasing weapons at gun shows.
"Those are things that we can do now that won't interfere with the right to own a gun but hopefully will avoid and keep guns out of the hands out of the people who are violently unstable," Ellison said.
Ellison also says there needs to be greater access to mental health treatment. He said that would help identify early signs of mental instability which he says lead some to take violent acts.
Ellison has been the most vocal of Minnesota's Congressional delegation to today's shooting. Many others suggested that today was not the day to discuss whether stricter gun control measures are needed.
yup te muzzies want us disarmed, damn straight. obama says it and acts like it. you dont try fast and furious if you don’t want to disarm people one way or the other.
Privately purchased. He used a FN Five-Seven pistol.
Rat policies allow the mentally insane to walk the streets as long as they promise to take their meds every day. Do the mentally insane think they are crazy? Ellison jumps on the wagon because an unarmed America makes his mission a lot easier
Wasn't that what they said about the NFA of '34?
Well, that'd balance the budget overnight.
...”Yet not one word about the 52 million babies who have had a hole drilled in their skull, their brain sucked out and their bodies burned.
Miserable hypocrites”...
If I did not believe that God will bring justice one day, I don’t know whether I could survive the knowledge of the incredible evil of all that.
...”The democratic politician’s ideal world (and that of a great many Republicans too) is one where only the police and the military are armed. One where the bulk of the population alternates between cowering defenselessly between threats from unorganized criminal gangs, and fear of the government’s jackbooted thugs. The unorganized criminals are by far the lesser threat”...
I totally agree..
They can’t even wait for the bodies to reach room temperature before they start coming for the one thing that could have saved these innocents.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomburg wants to ban ALL guns, A gun is no different than Michael Bloomberg. They are both just tools. The root cause of our violent society are things like Hollywood, television and video games. Young people are bombarded with violent images 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The sick mind absorbs this until they hit a saturation point, and then they lash out at society. Mr. Bloomberg should put more effort into cleaning up Hollywood, tv and video games if he’s truly concerned about the problem.
And lets not forget the constant murder of unborn babies through government assisted abortions.
America started downhill when we kicked God out of our schools, our families, and our life. Now we live in a free society where anything goes. Most young people now days have no respect for themselves, their family or anything!
I hear there's gonna be entertainment too- "Featuring Van Morrison playing his hit song, "BloodDance"! "Well it's a marvelous night for a BloodDance We'll act concerned and maybe get high. We can can frown, shed a tear with compassion And like the Sheep, know we're all gonna die. (Chorus) You know the Guuuns magic Makes them all go insane. Because of smaaall Peckers We'll all end up slain. Can I have just have one more BloodDance with you My Love? Can I just take all your guns from you this time My love?"
And so should the folks in Minnesota’s 5th District who elected him.
What is needed is an effective way to rapidly get control of someone thought to be unstable. It has been widely published that both Laughner and Holmes acted in ways that were considerably outside the norm.
The thinking in the mental health arena is that these folks can talk about mass killings, but if they don’t have a “plan” then they are OK. So they ascribe rational thought (making a plan) to an irrational person and the result is a catastrophe.
Homeland Security publishes all this stuff about “see something say something” about terrorist. What is really needed is a see something DO something about mentally ill people.
No sane person does these things - that is a given. So the person who does these mass killings in all probability exhibited significant irrational speech and/or actions. Somebody, somewhere had to notice. The sad part is even if they noticed, and even if they called someone - ANYONE - nothing can be done until the nutcase does something.
We need to roll the laws back a bit so that society can preemptively get a handle on people who appear way outside the norm. And that action has to happen fast and be firm. Nobody anymore should have the “right” to refuse to take medication and then walk among us as a time bomb with a short fuse.
Keith Ellison, the muzzie, would love nothing more than a disarmed America, so that his people can easily instill Sharia Law.
Connecticut HAS tough gun laws. How well did THAT work for them? Gun free zones are like a flock of sheep in a pasture, waiting for the coyotes to cross the fence...
“We need sane, sensible gun regulation and we need it now.”
Because even the muzzies know that their global caliphate will ultimately be thwarted by an armed populace...
Over 600,000 loaded guns in Wisconsin during the recent deer season yet not one crime committed with a gun. I could write down the names of over 500 people I know who own guns and not one has ever committed a crime with a gun. One word on gun control: Chicago. Their tough gun laws really work well there, don’t they? You are safer in Afghanistan than in Chicago.
Did Ellison embrace Islam while he was in prison?
Can’t add anything here although I can throw in Carson the other Muzzie in the House.
Not only did Rep. Keith Ellison NOT make a plea for greater gun control after Nidal Hanson's slaughter of innocents at Ft. Hood, but NONE of the other liberals calling for gun control today did either.... ( not that they're in some weird 'group think' or anything)
