Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says President Barack Obama should nominate Colin Powell as secretary of state as a bipartisan gesture toward mending fences with Republican senators who rejected U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice for the post.
I actually think it would not be a bad idea for President Obama to seriously consider seeing if Colin Powell would come back out of retirement because Colin did endorse him, Gingrich told Fox News Sean Hannity Thursday night.
That might be a bipartisan step that would move us in a direction of a different kind of dialogue, he said, suggesting that Powells moderate views would serve the country better than any other possible nominees to succeed outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Even the most intelligent amongst us can still show signs of idiocy. Never thought much of Gingrich, but at the very least I thought he had an IQ above room temperature. Now I know better.
Good one Newt. Sometimes your logic is baffling. I guess you have a super intelligent brain.
How would that be bi-partisan? Putting a former Republican in his cabinet? Heck, why doesn’t he just nominate Charlie Crist? Or Arlen Specter? (Yes, I know he’s dead, but a dead guy might be an improvement over what we have now.)
Obama doesn’t want dialogue...he wants total control and to destroy the Republican Party and our country. Newt should know better.
Bipartisan? Newt’s assuming Colin is still a Republican? lol
For supporting Obama, Colin Powell is traitor to his country. He should be stripped of his rank, his medals, and his military pension. I hope he burns in hell.
Wrong in so many ways.
This is from The Onion..., right...?
Powell was the perfect affirmative action officer. His public statements lately reveal what a liberal ass he really is.
Gingrich may be trying to help HusseinO screw up (even more than he’s been doing)?
War hero,hardly.More of a back-shooter.
Does any freeper think ob will choose someone acceptable to conservatives?
Sometimes words written do not and cannot convey their meanings without a very long description. JFKerry all alone should stimulate some memory of his presidential run. AND apparently JFKerry who constantly reminds US of his service in Vietnam threw his 'hat' in the circus of replacing Hillary.
Even old lord McCain came alive over Susan Rice. WHY? Well, JFKerry is lord McCain's good bud... remember the reports of lord McCain trying to get himself on JFKerry's presidential ticket? Now Newt lobs this one out there as if nobody has heard squat about the Senate clearing out the presidential road blocks (Susan Rice) to give a clean-shot for a promotion to JFKerry.
Good points all. ;-)
I knew many heroes in VN and Kerry ain’t one of them. Traitor comes to mind.
What’s “bipartisan” about nominating a Democrat to a Democrat administration?
