Hence my note at the end of the piece, “and let me add that even if this is the case, I am not proposing this as a complete explanation of the current economic crisis by any stretch”. But the corporate crooks and Marxists have often traveled together out of mutual interests. The Communist movement has long relied on corporate funding via “philanthropies”, and has also found it useful to learn capitalist practices for financial warfare purposes (for instance, the KGB trained a group of agents in the tactics used by Marc Rich); while from the corporate perspective, Marxism can be a tool to consolidate power, take out the competition, and divert “appropriated” resources.
