Merck's charitable foundation has stopped giving money to the Boy Scouts of America. The Merck Foundation says the Boy Scouts' exclusion of gays from its ranks and leadership positions conflicts with giving guidelines and the company's nondiscrimination policy.
The foundation says it will reconsider giving money to the Boy Scouts if they change their policy on sexual orientation. Merck CEO Kenneth C. Frazier was a scout in his youth. He received the "Good Scout" Award from the Philadelphia Cradle of Liberty Boy Scout Council in June. ...

I feel like Horatio at the Bridge/Gate defending Rome against the Barbarians.
I think we all do, Sandy, but you just keep hanging in there! The scouts need men like you!

I hear you. It was around 1992 when Levi Strauss was putting pressure upon the UW chapters serving San Francisco to stop funding BSA. Up to that time, I had worn Levi jeans since elementary school. I stopped overnight. Years later other volunteer Scouters told me that LS never was a corporated donor to BSA. They just seized the marketing initiative to bash BSA.
That used to be the American way - if you disagreed you went your own way and applied your energies in your own corner of the world. Not anymore. They intend to take down BSA.
Which is all most of us can do. Unfortunately, many corporations put heavy pressure upon their employees to contribute "their fare share". As you may know, UW knows there are donors like you out there so they changed their pledge cards in the early 1990s to allow donors to "direct" their funds soley to 1 charitable organization like BSA. Of course, it is a "shell"/ confidence game red herring. The UW chapters already know how much (% of the "take") they are going to contribute to their qualified recipient non-profit organizations.
That is it.

From the article...’Merck CEO Kenneth C. Frazier was a scout in his youth.’
Does this whold thing now mean that he is a queer, protecting his kind?

Exactly. My organization has a very strong 100% giving goal. Even if it's only a buck they want everyone to give something to United way.
I basically laugh in their face and tell them I will not contribute to faggot organizations.
They say "but you can direct your contribution to BSA"
But even if you direct your contribution to BSA some small part of that goes for UW overhead, which ends up supporting faggots.
I've not given anything to UW since they cut off BSA the first time. Then I learned who they really support. The entire organization and everyone who works for them (UW that is) can die for all I care. The world would be a much better place
(BTW, I'm proud to ruin my organization's 100% goal!)

Because it's no fun to go after a auto mechanic who tosses on the scout uniform a couple nights a week, and a troop nestegg of a half million doesn't make anywhere near as attractive of a target as ten million.
The way to save scouting is to fire the professional arm, and return it to a volunteer organization. Return what few assets exist to troops, and yes, some troops will die, and some camps will die, but the movement will survive. It will not survive as it is, and the present organization has become the greatest foe to moving forward.
I was subject to such pressure. They didn't care about the dollar amount, they wanted 100% of the officer group to set the example for giving. I told them I would not give a penny to UW because it funds planned abortions.
Fortunately, I wasn't alone. I never gave the 'rah - rah' speach to the team either. You cannot compromise on values and principles.

Thank you for your insight. I am not knowledgeable about the inner workings of the BSA but that sounds spot on.
I think Merck just stated what their policy is on that. They’re strongly opposed to protecting children.
