Burglar calls 911 to save himself from gun-wielding homeowner

A suspected burglar called 911 after the owner of the home he broke into caught and held him at gunpoint.

The suspect, Christopher Moore, placed the emergency call in Springtown, Texas, during the botched burglary attempt early Tuesday after James Gerow, the homeowner, and Gerow's son pointed guns at him as he sat in his pickup truck parked in the driveway.

"I'm out in the country somewhere," Moore told the 911 operator during the 10-minute call. "Some guy's got a gun on me."

Gerow's wife, Lindy, placed a concurrent call to 911 that confirmed Moore's account.

"You better come quick," she said, "or my husband's going to shoot him."

Would that be called citizen’s arrest?

I had to read this twice after reading cops arrested the burglar because I’m not use to it. I unfortunately live in New York city, the liberal rotten sphincter hole of the east coast, and without a doubt if that happened here, the cops would have either shot the home owner and/or arrested him and let the burglar go, and if you think I’m lying, a friend of mine drives a cab and was robbed a few years ago and he ended up beating the crap out of the robber and holding him till cops arrived. And what did the cops do when they got there? Threatened to arrest HIM for assault and demanded he let the robber go which he did!

And if you think that happens rarely, he told me the same thing happened to another cabbie who drove a guy to the Bronx who tried to skip on the fare which was $30. So he chased after the guy, punched him out and held him till cops arrived. When they got there, they not only demanded he release the guy, but also pay him $100 bucks for assaulting him which he did! So not only did this guy rob him for $30, he also had to pay him an extra $100 and apologise! I always tell people that when they want to know how incredibly sick and liberal NYC is.

I’ve never been to N.Y.C. but I have a story. My b-i-l, now deceased, was an owner/operator, long haul trucker, driving in the contiguous 48 and northern Mexico.

He made a trip to NYC and had to make a delivery, he stopped in front of a business where he had to take in some paper work, saw a meter maid and asked her if he could double park for 5 minutes or less, she said,”sure, go ahead”

He locked his truck took the papers inside, all less than 5 minutes, when he got back there was a $150 parking ticket on his semi and somebody had smashed the drivers side window and stole his brief case. Thereafter, he refused all loads to NYC.

We have GOT to get guns out of the hands of homeowners. It is just too dangerous for a hard working burglar to feed his kids and his Babymamma.
Maybe they need a union. The National Brotherhood of Crooks, Burglars and Thugs. The NBCBT

They already have one. It's called SEIU (among others)

That’s hilarious. But when you think about it, we already have unions for criminals: SEIU, IBEW, NEA, etc.

Wife and I held two tresspasers/poachers at gun point several years back. Judge told me I was lucky THEY didn’t press charges for wreckless endangerment. I told him the next one won’t get that chance.

This is odd.

We were told on various Byron Smith threads that the right thing to do when you have a bead on two unarmed intruders is to shoot the first one anyway, then blow his brains out while he's lying on the floor wounded, then hide his body, then lie in wait for the second intruder, gut shoot her, then switch weapons and shoot her a few more times for kicks, then lean over her and blow her brains out.

Most important: do not call 911.

The guy in this article apparently did everything wrong. He must be a human being, or something.

I heard part of the 9-11 calls yesterday. The thug’s call was funny and he lied about being on HIS property with someone having a gun aimed at him.

Clearly cabbies need to learn to beat the crap out of the burglar and then get the heck out of there without involving the cops.

Well you believe what you want but the fact is the NYPD absolutely detests cab drivers so I absolutely believe what he told me. When I use to drive 20 years ago I got robbed by a passenger in the Bronx who asked me to change a 20, and when i took my money out he slapped me across the face, grabbed my money out of my hand and ran away, and just by chance at the same time a cop car was driving down the street. Godd luck right? Nope! I jumped out and waved them down, told them what happened, and right to my face they told me it was too late he got away and they drove off. Mind you, they SAW him running out of the cab! I don’t know if you live in the city, but next time you take a cab ask the driver what he thinks of the NYPD. I absolutely guarantee you he will tell you the same kind of stuff. When’s the last time you read about anyone getting arrested for robbing a cab driver or even killing one? There was one shot a few days ago. They’ll do nothing about it, you will never hear about this again even if he was killed.

That's well known. Hacks and cops are a mutual hatred society.

What I simply do not believe is that police officers would risk their jobs by doing something as ridiculous as making a hack pay money to a mugger.

If they were going to risk getting fired it would be to do something that profited themselves. This story makes no logical sense at all.

Also, if the cops came to a house where there was a burglar and an armed homeowner, they would not let the burglar go free.

They would arrest the burglar for burglary and arrest the homeowner for unlicensed possession of a weapon.

Why would a cop, who measures his promotions in arrests that stick, not make an arrest like that? It would be a layup conviction for him. Two easy collars for one incident.

This is yet another scenario where you imagine cops engaging in behavior that would be directly contrary to their own interests.
