HOWARD DEAN: The only problem is -- and this is initially going to seem like heresy from a progressive is -- the truth is everybody needs to pay more taxes, not just the rich. And it's a good start. But we're not going to get out of this deficit problem unless we raise taxes across the board, to go back to what Bill Clinton had and his taxes. And if we don't do that, the problem is the pressure is going to be on spending even more.

Earth to Deaner....the Federal Gov’mt has a terminal SPENDING problem...that will go on REGARDLESS of the levels and amounts of taxation. There will NEVER BE ENOUGH “REVENUE” to satisfy the beast.

Makes the alternative pretty stark when you see it from that perspectve

Sadly, if they had raised EVERYBODY’S taxes before November 6th, Barry Benghazi would be looking for some new digs in Hawaii rather than going there to play golf, lay around on his ass on the beach and think about new ways of spending OUR money.

The truth is........is all those that do not think that they are paying enough taxes, ought to ante up. I am sure that the treasury will accept some more bucks.

Putting their money where their mouth is, is something that liberals/socialists and commies will not do.

They want to put OUR money where their mouth is.

This is why the Republicans cannot bargain with the Democrats. They do not care if they go off the cliff because they will get exactly what they want, everyone’s taxes to go up, and massive defense cuts. And in the end the Republicans will get the blame for the increase in taxes on middle-class.

The Republicans can only get in front of this if they can convince the uninformed voters that Obama is the one that is driving this car. They must articulate that the Republicans have offered plans that would keep the middle-class tax cuts in effect. They must make it very clear and very loud that the Obama administration and the Democratic legislature has not passed the budget in four years. The Obama plan does not exist except in the mind of Obama, it can’t be criticized because nobody can see it. Until Obama can present a plan that can be scored independently, the can be no negotiations.

Arm_Bears~:” No, Howard, the truth is the government needs to stop spending.”

Howard , if i have to pay more taxes , it means I have to budget my money.
Is it too much to ask for the FED to go on a budget ?
When was the last budget proposed by the President ?
Oh yeah , it got NO democrat votes , and Reid won’t even bring up Obama’s proposed budget for a vote !
No budget in 4 years..??
And now you want more money —> stop the spending, idiot ! I had to do it , now it’s your turn !!

I have a great idea-anyone who voted for Obama should pay a 50% tax rate including quite a few Hollywood actors/actresses, people who can work but get food stamps & unemployment, young adults who don’t know better or who have been brainwashed & all the Democrates in the House, Senate & President. They are the ones who voted for a tax rate & the rest of us didn’t & can’t afford an increase in taxes.

Gotta give Howie props for at least being honest.

There’s no way that soaking the $250,000 crowd and above is even going to put a dent into the deficits. And Liberals/Progressives/Socialists aren’t willing to cut back on government spending.

So the only thing left to really push down the deficit is to dig deeper down the income scale. Which is exactly where Liberals/Progressives/Socialists are really planning on going.

Dean also deserves props for being honest on ObamaCare: he agrees that it’s a poison pill that’s going to collapse the current health care system. Which to him is a good thing because it’ll lead to the adoption of single-payer.

No, Howard, the truth is the government needs to stop spending.

Exactly. The federal government takes in what, about 3 trillion dollars a year? If it stopped all the BS - like the unconstitutional entitlement spending and just got back to what it is Constitutionally authorized (and supposedly limited) to doing... They would have a surplus every year and we could pay off the debt inside of a decade or less.

well at least Dean is honest. we all know they need more money than can be provided by the top 2%. That’s why Obama wants the Bush tax cuts to expire - all of them - and then will agree to extending them for the 98% but only if he gets more spending, stimulus and other crap they want

The socialist wealth redistributors from both parties already take far too much from the economy to spend on their foolish and wasteful programs.

The proof is in the ongoing collapse of the private sector of the economy and the staggering spending, which can only be paid back by government created runaway inflation of the dollar.

Even if we don’t cut spending, we’re all going to have to pay more taxes later in this decade just to cover the interest expense on our massive federal debt accumulated through spending that has already occurred and can’t be revoked. So for the first time in my memory, I agree with Howard Dean on something. Howard, you’re right about this. There’s no way out of higher taxes later in this decade either through visible taxes or through inflation. It’s a done deal. The die is cast. We can’t unring that debt bell. The first tax increase should be to limit total itemized deductions (other than charitable contributions) to $100K. At this time, the federal government can’t afford to be subsidizing $4 million mortgages on luxury homes with $200,000 mortgage interest deductions.

Not defending Howard Dean here, but he did say we also need massive cuts and thinks we should balance the budget right away - I don’t agree with the increase on taxes part.

IMO, the Republicans should pass one bill that entends the Bush tax rates for everyone except for the top rate and make them PERMANENT and tie this bill to eliminating the AMT or raising it to inflation adjusted rates from the past 30 or 40 years.

Then pass a second bill that extends the Bush tax cut for the upper income taxpayers - let the Dems and 0bama shoot this bill down, so they own the tax raises on the “wealthy” & small businesses.
Athough the higher rate will affect me personally, the permanent tax rates will help future generations including my children.

Then use the debt ceiling debate to cut spending, threaten to shut down the government by not raising the debt celing if there are no spending cuts.

What the Democrats want is to confiscate all the money earned and then make you apply for a refund, of sorts. Of course you’ll have to prove your needs just in reverse of deductions as it is now.
