Reacting to Bob Costas controversial halftime gun control lecture on Sunday night, retired NBA all-star Charles Barkley said he carries a real gun because he feels safer with it.
Barkley, appearing on Costas Tonight, said he doesnt think the nation has a gun culture but rather a crime culture especially in the black community.
You know, we as black people always, we dont have respect for one another. You know, weve got more black men in prison than we do in college and crime in our neighborhoods is running rampant, Barkley said. And I know everybody reacts when something like the Belcher thing happens, but being black, this is something you deal with all the time. And its just sad. Im a guy, I carry a gun. I carry a gun.
Costas then pointed out that Barkley lives in Arizona where he can legally carry a gun.
Even when I lived in Philadelphia, Ive had a gun, Ive carried a gun in my car every year in my life since I was 21, 22. Never had to use it, Barkley added.
Are you packing right now? Costas asked jokingly. Just being sure.

Wow! Barky actually said something that made sense.
Who carries a non Real gun????!
Stunning, isn’t it?
My GOSH, Barkley is a racist for saying that!! /s (if the Has Been Media would tell like it is!!)
First step... state the truth.
Next step... then ask why. Maybe, it has to do with the family or lack of.
Final step... fix it.
Barkley just ended his TV career.
Someone should drop Bob off in a select neighborhood in the hood. He has to be scruffily dressed. And leave him there.
No, he didn’t. He just went up a notch in my book. Despite his attendance at Auburn. RTR
Yeah it amazes me why white liberals don’t “diversify” minority neighborhoods
Hope you’re right. But look what happened to Bill Cosby, Justice Thomas, Herman Cain and others who contradict liberal doctrine—they get shunned and called “Uncle Tom”.
Actually he should be dropped off in innter city and then rural america where everybody owns a gun and knows how to use it... He would then see that it isn’t gun issue but a cultural problem. He might figure out that when a community has an 80% out of wedlock birth rate, there is a problem and an inimimate object isn’t the problem.
bkmk
Barkley is an extreme liberal. He’s talked politics many times on NBA Tonight. He’ll suffer no consequences. But, he will turn around and vote for gun control, but ignore it for himself because rules don’t apply to him.
Of course he is right. The irony is that a hundred years ago, a black community was generally as peaceable as an Irish one. The murder rate in this country was remarkably low. Even prohibition, which greatly enriched the criminal class in America didnt lead to the level of violence we see in this country today. What the heck happened?
There is that. Seventy years ago, there were plenty of fatherless boys in a black neighborhood, but they were kept in line by the older men, During the sixties, the young guys began to lose respect for any adult males. the uncles who kept order.
Drugs and mass media.
Two things:
The War on Poverty. And bussing.
LBJ found a way to destroy families. A federal judge found a way to destroy neighborhoods.
Next question...
“But it would take extreme circumstances for me to even touch it.
Exactly, this is something the liberals do not understand, every liberal anti thinks I want to use it to get a better parking space or shoot someone if they blow their horn.
Just my two cents, but I suspect the increase in violent crime has several causes:
virtual elimination of the death penalty and the rebranding of criminals as misunderstood 'victims' not responsible for their behavior
the rise of rap music and glamorization of violence
the increase rise of bastard children with no father in the home
explosive growth of drugs and gangs
