BOB COSTAS: And for a long time, Ive been wanting to get off my chest my disgust with this idea that every time something tragic happens, no matter what it may be, that in any way touches sports, theres a chorus of people saying, 'You know, this really puts it in perspective. Which is a bunch of nonsense, because if that was true, we wouldnt have to have that perspective readjusted every time the next tragedy occurs. Its a bunch of nonsense.
And what I was trying to say was, that if you want some perspective on this, there are a number of issues related to this that we could begin to talk about and think about. The problem was that I didnt have enough time to get to many of them. And that, I think, was my mistake, to be quite honest, Dan. A friend of mine in broadcasting pointed this out to me yesterday, and I agree with him. He said, You violated your own rule. Because we have had this discussion before. Ive always said, if youre going to get into touchy topics, nuanced topics, make sure that you have enough time to flesh them out, that you have enough time to make yourself fully understood, or save them for forums where you do. In this particular situation, the timeliness of it was, if youre going to comment on it at all, it had to be this Sunday. Because this is when the Belcher situation had played itself out. Don’t think Bob would admit it was ‘a mistake’ if the strong backlash is not there.
Hope it was such a mistake that he will be added to the number of unemployed. Media, keep your mouth shut unless you are qualified express an opinion which most are not.
Naw, If we raise awareness we’re good.
The immediate reaction to the murder was to blame the weapon effectively excusing the perp of the crime committed. Glossing over the crime of murder is very troubling.
We don't want your perspective on this, you twit. You've got nothing to say. Just shut up and tell me something I don't know about sports... As if.
He is a sports reporter ! REPORT SPORTS Who the H*** cares what his political or cultural opinions are? If the network had any guts there fire his butt for putting his mouth in topics where it doesn’t belong.
Well I give him credit for at least recognizing his error. Most people never do and much less say it to the public.
Oh come now you can not be that easily fooled.
His error was in thinking we all thin k like he does. Because of all the blowback (pun intended) he is now trying to make excuses.
Since Costas and Katie Couric decided they had to explain why the Greeks weren’t booing us at the Olympics in Athens I have not listened to anything either of them has to say. My Dashund displays more intelligence which ain’t much.
then he shoudl go on TV prime time and say he;s sorry he got it wrong
Players, fans and journalists were praising and memorializing and paying tribute to a cowardly punk who murdered the defenseless mother of his own child.
Why would they do this?
If Jovan Belcher were a Waffle House cook and did this, no one in the media or in the general public would be mourning his loss, looking for scapegoats besides the murderer himself, talking fondly about how the murderer was such a wonderful colleague at work, etc.
“I’m sorry you’re all too stupid to understand my brilliant insights.”
I’ve had meatloaf with more brains and comonsense that that Costas twerp.
No he didn't...he simply said he "didn't have enough time" to spew more of his/NBC's oral diarrhea.
FU BC/NBC
I understood him well enough!
And that my friends shows what an ignoramous he is. Hey little man. Don’t preach to ME about guns. Grew up with them a with father brother uncles cousins. Funny. They never murdered anyone!!!! Hope you lose your job. As I said. Don’t presch to ME YOU LITTLE TROLL !!!!
Apology of the week. Seems like you hear folks saying one thing then taking it back. Life living in the goy plantation.
You nailed it!
His mea culpa, such as it is, is that he didn’t have enough time to pontificate further, not that he shouldn’t have brought up his self-righteous screed at all.
Maybe the problem is that this country is too addicted to its sports. We raise up athletes who use their God-given talents to good effect, treat them like demigods, then pay them ungodly amounts of money. And, to make matters worse, we pay otherwise useless people to tell us what it is we are watching.
lol
seriously thought, this guy needs to be unemployed
