Each year around 130,000 patients are placed on the Lierpool Care Pathway, which can involve the withdrawal of drugs, fluids and food, and the administration of powerful pain relief. A national audit by the Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute Liverpool and the Royal College of Physicians ... demonstrated that in total, around 57,000 patients a year are dying in NHS hospitals without being told that efforts to keep them alive have been stopped.
It also reveals that thousands of dying patients have been left to suffer in pain, with no attempt to keep them comfortable while drugs were administered. just how routinely hospitals are placing patients on the pathway without informing them that steps which could hasten their death have been taken. The national audit found:
In 44 per cent of cases when conscious patients were placed on the pathway, there was no record that the decision had been discussed with them.
For 22 per cent of patients on the pathway, there was no evidence that comfort and safety had been maintained while medication was administered.
One in three families of the dying never received a leaflet they should have been given to explain the process.
Critics of the pathway say it is being used to hasten the deaths of the terminally-ill and elderly, in a form of "back-door euthanasia".
Other doctors, nurses and charities for the dying have come to the defence of the approach...

In a hard-hitting speech last week Mr Jeremy Hunt, Health Secretary, expressed concern about the culture of the NHS, warning that too many patients were forced to experience "coldness, resentment, indifference" and "even contempt".
He warned that in the worst institutions a "normalisation of cruelty" had been fostered.

We may be coming to the point where we may have to quench the thirst of the liberty tree
bump
The other thing that makes the situation here REALLY explosive is the fact that the "they" you refer to voted unanimously for it, while the "us" you refer to voted unanimously against it.
That's the part that leads to hell.
When this comes to America it will e called “The Chicago Way”.
Hospice is at least a choice and a known quantity.
Choice yes, but known, not necessarily. Drugging with opiates is placed on a schedule administered arbitrarily by hospice nurses, who may or may not be hemlock society types, or may not appreciate the remaining “value” of the patient. I’ve seen deliberate acceleration of death in otherwise sentient cancer patients at least twice, in personal circumstances.
The main point is that the “path”, and the corresponding frame of mind, is present here now, and quite ready to be implemented to a further, “official” degree.
“We may be coming to the point where we may have to quench the thirst of the liberty tree’
I only pray the tree is quenched more with the blood of tyrants than the blood of patriots.
Do you have a Curtis LeMay link I could read? Thanks!
Exactly. what these sheep don't realize is that it HAS to be that way. Socialism can't sustain itself and provide all the benefits once the host has been consumed. Then it must become more totalitarian just to survive.
What frightens me is these leftists in our Congress know this. They may be liberals but they are not stupid. They must know where this is leading. they are either
1) apparently good with it, or
2) being liberals they are too idealistic to believe it has to end that way
I tried to explain the holocaust’s precursors to middle school and later elementary aged children, friends of my daughter. Yes, Jews died, but so did devout Catholics, atheists, homosexuals and Roma. It wasn’t just about killing Jews but the “unfit”. I was asked how they could do this to other people. I answered that they could kill over six million people in nations they took over because they’d killed their own disabled relatives and neighbors first. After that, it is easy to kill those who aren’t even considered your people.
It is already here - a Hospice House here does the exact same thing - withholds food and gives morphine IV to keep the patient unconscious until the patient dies.
My husband's doctor wanted me to send him to a Hospice House and my husband was sitting up and talking and making sense. His sister and I went to the Hospice House to go through it.
There was a room set aside for a funeral home to come talk to you to plan the funeral. Any person going into Hospice will never come out alive and that is the truth.
When I got back to the hospital, I spoke to a lady doctor who was actually in charge of his case. She told me Hospice takes no measure to keep a patient alive, they are sent there to die. I would not send him there and he lived over a month longer, still talking to us.
If you look up the definition of "hospice", you find this:
1. a house of shelter or rest for pilgrims, strangers, etc., especially one kept by a religious order.
2. Medicine/Medical A. A health-care facility for the terminally ill that emphasizes pain control and emotional support for the patient and family, typically refraining from taking extraordinary measures to prolong life.
B. A similar program of care and support for the terminally ill at home.
Hospice at home is likely not to have the person on a morphine drip - it would have to be pills unless there is a nurse there constantly to see about the IV.
The truth about Hospice Houses in our country is not being told. They pretend to be swell, caring places, then, in my opinion, they murder the patients and would have murdered my husband.
That stops the Medicare cost - sedate them, withhold food/moisture and they die, just like in England.
Don't any of you write a post to me about how fine Hospice Houses are - if you believe that, you don't know the truth. I found out the truth.

I understand your distress with my statement, but leftists understand only three things:
1. Threats of violence.
2. Violence.
3. Death.
Reagan understood that and brought down the Soviet Union with threats of violence. It’s the way the world works, unfortunately. The left cannot be reasoned with.
Sadly enough, the euthanasia—first of the mentally retarded, and mentally ill—programs in Germany, that culminated in the Holocaust, started NOT under the Nazis, but in the democratic Weimar Republic.
Of course the Nazis made it (much) worse, and greatly sped of the “mercy killing” of those whose “life was not worth living” (Hitler’s terms), but my point is, it was originally a product of the modern secular state in Germany—BEFORE even the infection of National Socialism took hold.
What could the Libtards fight for? Obama? Free cell phones? Gay marriage?
I practice medicine. Many of my patients are elderly and in ill health. Hospice is supposed to be for people who are not expected to live longer than 6 months.
Many of my chronically ill patients who accepted hospice care died within days to weeks. One died before the hospice nurses could get to him. Another one with terminal chronic obstructive pulmonary disease got kicked out of hospice after 8 months. He died 4 months later. Just like life, every death is different
I am fortunate in that the geographical area I live in is very Red and still adheres to Christian, American values. We see death as a part of life and don’t try to hurry it along. It is still very hard to see a loved one get ready to leave this life. I fully expect that there will be a lot of hospice horror stories coming out of blue areas with large populations of “progressives” and forty-seven percenters. Heck, there probably already are.
My father died last year. He had Alzheimer’s disease but it was the recurrence of his prostate cancer that finally took him. He had recorded advance directives that specifically forbade any kind of intervention other than “comfort care”. When he started to get really sick the hospice staff gave him regular injections of morphine. Eventually he didn’t need them because he stopped drinking and died 4 days later. He was “on hospice” for a total of 12 days. In my opinion, he died a good death. His suffering was minimal and he did not linger.
I would advise everyone who reads this to record advance directives (a “living will”) while you are healthy so that your family will be aware of your wishes and ready to fight for you should it come to that.
My living will says to take every measure to keep me alive no matter what and to try to have my brain installed into a new body, preferably a young clone....
Greetings, Mrs. Don-o - I’ve been just ultra busy and not taking care of so many things - I will read and ping this out tomorrow!
