FLORENCE The spending and tax proposal delivered to Capitol Hill by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was laughable, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell told Pure Politics on Friday.
McConnell was being literal. According to the Weekly Standard, McConnell burst into laughter after Geithner outlined a plan with $1.6 trillion in tax increases over the next decade.
After speaking to Republicans at a Northern Kentucky dinner Friday night, McConnell said nothing is going to happen until the president gets serious.
He said there hasnt been any behind-the-scenes movement toward a deal that would avoid the fiscal cliff of automatic spending cuts and expiring tax cuts. Heres what he said: [on video at link]

Obama wants us to go over that cliff.
He wants to cut the military.
He wants higher taxes on the middle class.
McConell loves rhetoric but when push comes to shove, he gets shoved, him and boehner, at least boehner will shed some tears after he gets shoved, neither knows how to deal with a bully.
They spell leadership...okigiveup!
We shall see. History suggests: No.
No point in dealing with zero now. Let the media pillory the Republicans because they have very little they can do to hurt them with the public at this point. The media will be less and less credible the more apoplectic that they get. The conservatives don’t trust the media anyways and the low information 0-voters are too stupid to pay attention.
Let him hang himself. No new taxes. No tax increases. Take the heat. You’re gonna get blame anyway.
Why do the Democrats keep yammering about tax cuts for the middle class? I thought they only worried about the poor?
They are using the stall. Obama and Pelosi distract you while the “Pick” grabs your wallet. The Democrat leaders are using old pickpocket schemes to rob us. They want everyone to concentrate on the middle class while they steal the wallets of the rich. And if I was poor, I’d watch out too because the pickpockets aren’t just going after the targets they point out. We aren’t citizens to the Democrat leaders, we’re just Marks.
I looked at government spending and income as a percent of GDP. Bush (and Clinton to be fair) was obviously trying to spend about 20% of GDP as an annual budget. Income from taxes never got to 20% of GDP but, it was approaching that point before the 2008 crash.
Every single year Obama has been in office the Government has spent 25% of GDP (a 20% increase over Bush). Income under the Obama years has been close to 16% of GDP (hence the trillion dollar deficits).
In ay case, it is absolutely clear that the distance between income and outflow will not be closed by any spending cuts on entitlements. Military spending cuts and tax increases is the way to Obama’s Utopia. Obama’s game right now is to raise evryones taxes and then place the blame on the GOP. It’s simply no more complicated than that.
Of course, as intelligent people understand, raising taxes diminished economic activity. In other words, since the economy is not a static situation, a dollar of tax raised will not equate to an additional dollar of government revenue. Amongst other things, we necessarily will go into recession.
In the end, Obama’s goal is to destroy the republican party as a viable politcal entity by hanging the bad economy he creates around their neck. It’s a calculated risk but Obama is betting that when the dust settles, the Republicans will be blamed.
A compromise deal in front of the White House with Boehner and Obama shaking hands and smiling through forced grins is not coming. What’s coming is a big speech from Obama about how the GOP is radical and looking out only for the rich. The GOP will then be forced to make its speeches, too. Based on what I’ve seen dso far, Boehner’s speeches will likely come across as flat, weak, and defensive. Boehner is obviously ill-prepared for what he’s up against. He shows up to these things with a calculator. What he really needs to bring is a bad attitude, a PR team, and a great speech writing team. It’s politics, baby!!!
Next up for Obama comes the debt ceilig fight where the GOP will once again be accused of being radical for not simply signing up for trillions more in debt. Obama will have the politics on his side yet again but, the GOP will again have the math on their side. So far, having the math has been a feckless weapon which is painfully unfortunate for those of us who love this country. In any case, this is the game. We have no choice but, to play along and make our moves as best we can.
What poppycock. It’s over. The country is gone. Try to take everything you can from the dole while you can. We have reached the point of no return. I say this with a heavy heart
.
Well, except everybody's taxes will go up automatically.
Which, of course, is what the African communist Ubanga wanted all along.
Amen, brother. Apparently, we think alike. Below is a statement I’ve posted here several times over the past few years. Some freepers reply that I’m “quitting”, or “whining and wringing my hands”... I am neither. I will continue to fight, if only to slow the Democrat scum from fully enjoying the fruits of their efforts. And I am not whining and wringing my hands - - in fact, I’m having a blast!
I just keep my eyes wide open. I have studied this stuff for a long time; I know what reality looks like and I can admit it when my side has lost. Anyway, here’s that post referenced above:

America is dead and gone. The final nail in the coffin was the 2008 election of an African communist as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. America had a great run. Remember it fondly for what it was, but theres no point hanging onto the past.
The United States of America is now little more than a land mass populated by cretins, ingrates, and parasites who have absolutely no respect for the military and who vote for big government to confiscate money from their neighbors so that it may be redistributed to them in exchange for their votes. It is not an America worth defending anymore. That America no longer exists.
The parasites outnumber the hosts now, and theres no going back. America is dead.
The Democrats have won.
Nothing lasts forever (shrug) and theres no point crying or whining about it. My recommendation to every decent human left out there is to throw some cold water in your face and proceed to Plan B. Figure out how to grab every government dime you possibly can before the parasites who comprise the Democrat party base gobble it all up. Look for angles. Look for refuge. Hide what you have. Get under the radar and game the system. Every man for himself.
Good luck, everybody.
I can't wait to see what message Obama will send when he figures out that the debt ceiling needs to be raised.
“Nothing lasts forever (shrug) and theres no point crying or whining about it.”
The perfect song by which to quash the malaise:

You are so right. I thought we might have a chance in 2012. I was seeing another landslide ala Reagan. I didn’t realize the point of no return was here. Eyes wide open. Let the gaming begin.
These are just the tax rates in place when Clinton was in office - are the Democrats now admitting they were too high for the “middle class”? That should be another point of argument brought up as yet another logical fallacy of the Democrats’ argument.
