As my grandkids say ... big whoop.
Does this mean Israel will now have a legal party to declare war upon?
It’s a big whoop if they name Jerusalem as its capitol.
This could be a good reason to withdraw from the filthy crowd of socialists, thugs and dictators and let them all move to Paris.
Not exactly a nail biter.
It’ll easily sail through
“Has obama announced a seven-year plan for peace and security yet?”
As soon as he finishes the back nine.
Can the U. S. veto this?
We’ve vetoed lots of other things. We’ve vetoed many things strictly related to Israel too.
Besides, isn’t this just an elevated status for the Arabs on the West Bank and Gaza, and not full nationhood?
If they do, I say give the U. N. thirty days to vacate our soil, at which point the U. N. building will be raised.
No veto’s in the General Assembly, that would be the Security Council.
This is all symbolic of course, the UN doesn’t have the power to decide what is and what is not a country
3 pm, right? I’ll be picking up my son from school but will be anxious to get back!
Okay thanks. I thought some of the condemnation votes against Israel had taken place in the General Assembly and had been vetoed by the U. S.
Frankly, I couldn’t tell you what does or doesn’t make a country official.
It would seem that 185 or so nations recognizing it as such, and only a few objecting, it would pretty much be a done deal.
After 1948, it’s not really Israeli territory is it?
Come to think of it, didn’t the Arabs on the West Bank and Gaza refuse to sign that agreement? Are all the prior lands still considered one parcel due to that? I don’t honestly know.
If so, Israel would seem to have the final say.
Israel should agree to it. Then give them Gaza and move everyone out of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Then wall it off.
Living in NYC i can tell you those buildings are pretty ugly.
I read that they were going to recognize the 1967 border and then they would immediately declare that Israel is illegally in occupation of the West Bank.
