Full Headline = Sign of National Resentment for the American Way of Life: Kristof Angry About Private Generators During Sandy
RUSH: Now, over the weekend, a columnist in the New York Times by the name of Nicholas Kristof wrote a piece. He's all upset about the electrical grid failing in the Northeast during Hurricane Sandy. But that's not what made him mad. What made him mad was the reliance that some people had on private generators. He was upset about that, that some people had them and other people didn't. Here's the short version, according to David French at National Review.
This is the short version of Kristof's piece: "Low tax rates on the rich, plus failure to deal with climate change, equals decaying infrastructure, increasing inequality, and wealthy opt-outs from public services," and public utilities. And they're able to go get their own generators, and this is not fair, that some should have generators and others shouldn't. And it's all because of climate change and all because the rich and income inequality that some people had private generators and others didn't. He made a whole column about this!
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I'm not kidding. This guy Nicholas Kristof, this is mainstream liberal opinion at the New York Times, a piece over the weekend upset about the electrical grid being insufficient, failing, being knocked out of power. Not just during Hurricane Sandy, but primarily then, but any other time it goes down, it's not fair that some people aren't affected by it. They're able to go out and own private home generators to get through the outage while other people are unable to. And he claims that the reason that this is possible is that tax rates on the rich have been too low, which means the rich have too much disposable income, and with that disposable income they're able to go out and buy private generators that they really shouldn't be entitled to have. It's not fair.
Now, as I go through all this, keep in mind based on the election results, the American people agree with this. The American people signed on for this. The American people, maybe by a couple, three million votes, whatever it was, 51 to 48%, the American people agree with this. You don't get points for getting close. You don't get points for almost winning. You don't get points for losing, but not by a landslide. You'd be amazed. The people of California voted to increase their own taxes. They voted to raise taxes on themselves. The people of California are voting for what is happening there. And now we can say the people of this country are voting for what's happening here.
So when Kristof says low taxes on the rich are to be opposed because they are able to go out and buy things like private home generators so that they don't feel the electrical grid outage, so it means we have to raise taxes and also the grid failed because we're not doing enough on global warming. We're not raising taxes enough to deal with global warming. We have failed to deal with climate change. We don't have high enough taxes on the rich, and that means that our infrastructure is decaying, that there is a greater inequality of income among the people, and the real insult is that the wealthy are then able to opt out from public services.
Now, in the old days, not too long ago, I remember where this is the kind of thing that people aspired to. People aspired to be successful, to earn enough money to provide themselves an increasing standard of living, and this provided motivation and inspiration for others to follow. Now, that's not the way it is in America anymore and we're going to have come to understand that. Success is not inspirational. Success is not motivational. Success makes you a target. Success makes you an enemy. Success means that you aren't playing fair. And I'm not exaggerating.
At some point we're gonna have to understand what's happened here. It's not the Latino vote that caused us to lose the election, and it's not the single women under 30 vote, and it's not all these other demographic things that resulted in Romney and us, the Republicans, losing the presidential race. Those are convenient excuses that are easy for the Republican Party to seem to address, which will not matter in the long run. We are losing the American way of life. The American way of life is now targeted. The old standard American way of life is now seen as the big problem, because not everybody can share in it, not everybody has a fair shot at it, not everybody will ever be able to participate in it fully, and so it's unworthy, unjust, and should no longer be allowed.
And that's where the people of this country are. You can sit there and tell me, "No, Rush, no." It's like Bill Parcells always says about an NFL team, "You are what your record is." If you're 4-7, you are 4-7. You're not a maybe, you know, 10-4. You're 4-7, you're 4-7. Your record is what you are. The country is what it is. The guy running for reelection made no bones about what he intends to do, and he certainly didn't hide what he intends to do for four years in the big picture. He got reelected. Certain things, folks, there is a deep resentment.
Preppers’ PING!!
If you look through the Prepper post or asking any of the 450 plus members of the Prepper Ping list and they will tell you that you will find you will find examples of these angry anti-prepper types even here on FR.
I have a number of times posted about three types of people that I like to warn about, the first two are the Ive got lots of guns and plenty of ammo and Ill just take what I need. and the I dont prep because I dont believe anything is going to happen, but if it does preppers should share with me, which is more or less the type covered in this article.
Call many of these people on their post and many will backdown or just not respond in their embarrassment, but many will reply back in righteous anger the same anger that you see in this article grasshopperswho are shocked and infuriated by ants who wont readily share with all.. Even though many of us do share, we just we dont to the point of endangering our own families or helping those who wont do for themselves.
Now as I said some the Ill take what I want crowd when confronted will often back off saying things like I was just joking, but I dont believe it. When I read their post I cant help but think of this quote from one of my favorite westerns Open Range: Most times a man will tell you his bad intentions if you listen, let yourself hear. Ive heard their intentions and they arent good.
The third type that I warn about are those who wish to bring Gods Armageddon into the discussion as if they know that it will be Gods will should some catastrophe befall us. They claim this despite the fact that the history of man is full of direr times which were caused by nature or man himself. History has shown us all too well that men do not need God to help them muck things up to a point were their fellows cry out for God to end it all and relieve them of their misery. Some of these I like to ask: Do you wear a seatbelt when you drive or ride in a car? Do you have car insurance? And if they reply yes then I tell them their faith must not be as strong as they claim.
The real problem with the its Gods will crowd is that many of them will want to see you punished as they will see your prepping as you trying to dodging Gods punishment. This group along with the I dont prep, but you should share group will be among the first to report you and your hoarding to the powers that be in their efforts to make sure you too suffer just as they do. The first group because as I said they see you as trying to escape the rightful wrath of God (as if they know the Lords mind) and the second because you proved them wrong.
You can be fairly certain that all three groups will hate you as they will be quick to blame you for the troubles because in their twisted way of thinking your prepping brought the troubles and therefore you need to be punished for your transgressio
I would imagine the guy was talking mainly about permanently mounted and sheltered home stand-by back-up power systems, often diesel or NG, but who knows. "None of his business" applies in either case.
Only people who are too stupid or too lazy to get their own have to resort to retarded arguments like this, and then add insult to injury by cloaking their stupidity and laziness in concern for the “common good”. I too would like this genius to address the unions, Congress, and other “more equal than the other animals” who have exempted themselves from Obamacare. The only way to be truly free anymore in this country is to live as simply as possible, asking as close to nothing as possible from the government, and thereby keeping them as far away as possible from your and your family’s lives. There’s no other way now. And especially keep the government’s tentacles off your children.
Hey Kristof, do you own a car? Do you ever take a cab or a limo? You know, there’s lots of people in NYC that can’t afford such luxuries. To be fair, you had better start taking the bus everywhere. Practice what you preach, or STFU.

Hear, hear! Homeschool!
As we went to a village, we were warned not to give any citizen anything. She said each family knew how many cups, bowls, pots, chairs, beds, another family had. There was one general television they could watch at certain times. They watched “Dallas” and thought everyone in the USA had sex with everyone else and they got that idea from “Dallas.”
We went into a school that had open windows, no glass in the windows, a door that barely closed and rough wood chairs and desks. There was no cooling and no heating. However, there were two ping pong tables.
They thought anyone overweight, and some in our group were overweight, was a rich person because that person could pay for a lot of food. I was the only blond in the group and the Chinese would point at my hair.
Naturally, what struck us was the poverty and the fact no one had more than someone else. This must be Hussein's dream and the dream of the man who didn't want people with money to have generators. He and Hussein want everyone the same - count the cups and pots and no gets a generator anymore.
Rich people have more than I do - so what? I have a nice townhouse paid for and any food I want to buy. That is not fair - if my house is paid for, everyone should own his/her house without a mortgage. I own my car, therefore no one should have to pay for their car - the problem is I paid off the mortgage with my money and I bought the car with my money and no one just gave me the money, I had worked for that.
I have never in my long lifetime seen this condition as we have it now - envy to the max - if you have it, I should have it or you shouldn't have it. See the connection to China? We all have it or none of us do.
In China, it was no one has more than another - exactly what is happening here. Really, this country is dead and doesn't know it and people on this forum who say don't believe that, have hope, we'll fix it in 2014 - we'll vote the bums out - there must be a bright future - no, there isn't - we have gone the way of all other countries in history who were once the leader of the world. They all collapsed and we have collapsed, too. Countries in the past over extended and collapsed - we have over extended and collapsed.
Be realistic and prepare - that's the only way you will live during this collapse that won't recover, ever. I'm tired of being wishy washy about this and listening to the “hope” folks - there is no hope. The only hope I see is in the Bible where it says hang on to what you have so you will escape what is to come. To me, that means the Rapture, the removal of Christians from what is to come - our great hope is God, not man as he has collapsed.
I heard a rumor that Bloomberg himself filmed an interview or something a few years ago in which he railed against preppers, ridiculing those who would store rice and canned beans and cling to their guns and generators ... I sure would like to find that clip now. (If anyone can link to it, I’d sure appreciate it!)
There is no law denying him the freedom to redistribute wealth by purchasing generators and giving them out for free to the deprived generatorless minority.
All the “poor” have to do to equalize things a bit is spring for prep courses for their kids.
These courses are expensive, and people think they don’t need them, or that they are only for kids who are very smart to begin with, but they are private enterprises and therefore hire the best and brightest teachers. The first thing they do is a diagnostic so each kid ends up in the right class getting taught exactly what they are weak in.
They do not “teach to the test” but actually teach the math and English the way they should have been taught in the first place. The kids come out of even their first session saying things like, “So THAT’s what it’s all about!”
Problem is, most “poor” families will buy expensive TVs and other electronics and smartphones and Nikes before they will spend one-tenth that amount on a prep course.
I’m talkng about the ones for the private high schools and “science” schools, as well as for the PSAT and SATs. A good score on the PSAT can get you a National Merit citation, which is worth its weight in scholarship gold and college acceptance, both of which vastly improve the child’s future.
I’m a bit off-topic here, and don’t mean to hijack the thread, but this is basic to me and can eliminate at its root some of the generator envy that Rush was talking about.
Sounds like Rush finally woke up. Many of us have known this for over a decade.
“The only way to be truly free anymore in this country is to live as simply as possible, asking as close to nothing as possible from the government, and thereby keeping them as far away as possible from your and your familys lives. Theres no other way now. And especially keep the governments tentacles off your children.”
BRAVO!
Those $100 generators are good for 800 watts. Not much good for anything but lights. Expect to spend around $300 for something useful.
Envy is a side-effect of vanity, thinking way too highly of oneself. The self-esteem movement and related ego stroking, grade inflation, unearned respect, permitting childish "no fair!" tantrums in the NYT, are other effective arrows in Satan's arsenal.
Can’t have enough ammo... it will become the new Gold plus it may save you life and the lives of your loved ones.

Not true at all. The ruling communists have everything and a lot more than most Americans. For instance... the ruling junta all drive Cadillac CTS autos... 2012’s to boot. These are perks from obama’s gm. Go to you-tube and search for GM in China and find the CEO of GM from this summer talking about their plans to move 99% of their operations to china. They will show a picture of all of the Cadillacs in the parking spaces in front of the main government buildings. There are verifiable billionaires in china... a few have escaped with their wealth. It will be the same here. Just look at the wealth in DC that is accrued after a person is elected. Go to DC with empty pockets and come home with millions in the bank... ask trent lott or harry reid.
Did you know that Macau has gaming? They have 33 casinos!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambling_in_Macau
Did you know that the floor in the lobby of the Emperor Casino in Macau is paved with solid gold bricks that are huge. They are placed under clear Lucite and backlit. Some of their citizens have money... but the government decides who wins life's lottery and of course they are all the rich communists. They have divided that country into "class levels". Ever wonder why obama tries to divide us into "classes" of subjects?

Exactly. Next political campaign, the Dem candidates need to referenced as Kulaks.
Get some history into the heads of some illiterate voters.
If you have a car, you have a generator, one sufficient for lights and refrigeration.
