Students Told to Disavow ‘American-ness, maleness, whiteness, heterosexuality’

A political science professor at Butler University asks students to disregard their “American-ness, maleness, whiteness, heterosexuality, middle-class status” when writing and speaking in the classroom – a practice the school’s arts and sciences dean defended as a way to negate students’ inherent prejudices.
The syllabus of the course at Butler, a small Midwestern liberal arts institution in Indianapolis, spells out that students should use “inclusive language” because it’s “a fundamental issue of social justice.”
“Language that is truly inclusive affirms sexuality, racial and ethnic backgrounds, stages of maturity, and degrees of limiting conditions,” the syllabus states, referencing a definition created by the United Church of Christ.
The syllabus of the class, called Political Science 201: Research and Analysis, goes on to ask students “to write and speak in a way that does not assume American-ness, maleness, whiteness, heterosexuality, middle-class status, etc. to be the norm.” It is taught by a black, female professor.
In an interview with The College Fix, Jay Howard, dean of Butler’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, denied this practice essentially presumes every student who walks through the door is a racist or misogynist.
He said students must be told not to assume such prejudices because such assumptions are ingrained into the culture and remain there until questioned. With that, a liberal arts education questions these assumptions, and such questions can make for uncomfortable situations, he said.

Find one of the good ones. May I suggest Colorado Christian University in Denver? Fabulous Christian education and home of the Western Conservative Union. Just had Stossel do a full day seminar for the business students. They have nationally known conservatives speak to and put on seminars for the students all the time. I’m jealous of my son - almost makes me want to go back to school....
Our education system is a disaster. If it were making cars instead of educated adults the vehicles would be fantastically expensive but only a minority of them could attain normal driving speeds. Many basic features would not be offerred while dubious and deleterious features would come standard. Many would be dangerous to operate. A sizeable fraction would spontaneously self-destruct. No one in their right mind would buy one.
Yet we keep sending our kids to known dysfunction-breeding factories, because it is "our civic duty." Or something.

The definition they gave for inclusive said it affirms the language of race, sexuality, etc., not exclude. I'm not sure what affirm means in Ebonics, but in English, it has a positive connotation.

Trust but verify. Repeatedly verify. And always have an action plan to get your son out. Bad schools ruin people for life. You cannot be too paranoid on his behalf.
Colleges have been at the business of ‘invalidating’ everything you are for donkeys’ years... heck, it's what they do in place of actually educating you!
It's why American college kids are as dumb as dirt about everything except social issues... and they don't get THAT right either!

Being a white male particularly if you have a conservative point of view or are Christian and especially Catholic makes you a focus for derision. Our mixed race metrosexual President is the new role model for the modern male.
Students should give profuse thanks to America’s straight white men. Directly or indirectly white men pay for about 80% of everything, including the tuition bills of minority students.
