Newly elected state representative Stacie Laughton, a Gate City Democrat, has been getting national attention since her win earlier this month, which made her the first openly transgender elected official in the state.
But this weekend, that attention turned negative after a story in the Laconia Daily Sun revealed that Laughton served four months in jail in 2008 on felony charges of conspiracy to commit credit card fraud.
According to information from the Laconia Daily Sun, Laughton was no stranger to Laconia police.
In addition to the conspiracy to commit fraud charges, Laughton was charged with slashing the tires of a neighbors car in 2006. The same year, Laughton reportedly admitted that she faked illness to gain an ambulance ride for herself and her now ex-wife, Lisa Laughton, also a Gate City selectman, from Weirs Beach back toward their home.

Nashua Ward 4 Selectman is the first openly transgender public official in New Hampshire.
To be a convicted felon is a resume enhancement for a Donkey. Unfortunately, the New Hampshire folks are getting the kind of government they voted for.
LOL! More proof that it wasn’t a good idea to let fools and morons vote.
Ummm... The dude looks like a dude. What an ugly “woman.”
Was I the only one to cringe at all of the references to this guy who had his penis sliced off as a “she?”
Note that the media only discovers this AFTER the election.
Nothing special to see here folks.
Just another highly credentialed democrat.
Move along please.
I am not double-checking, but it seems this is 1 of those idiots who hasn’t changed physically but has “declared” himself. Further, seems he/she hasn’t dressed the part yet either, so I don’t think we can call it a transvestite (un-PC term). If it hasn’t been updated, it’s not a transsexual either (un-PC original term for “transgender”). So what is it?
Just call this guy a mental patient
I know felons can’t vote but I didn’t know they could run for office.
Another crooked freak in the Democrat Party’s stable of felonious office holders. He/She will fit right in.
One thing HE'S not is intelligent. From HIS Facebook quote:
I live for today and my future. If you want to talk about me please by all means do so. At least your (sic) leaving someone else alone. That is all I have to say about it.
Yes, I would never call this person a “she”. I live in the real world, these people want to deny reality. Including the media.
...another nail in the coffin of Red Hampshire’s reputation as a ‘conservative’ state. No different than Vermont, Massachusetts and all the rest.
Considering what you’ve listed and what you’ve ruled out my guess is we’re talking about a “democrat”. Nothing else fits so well.
It is a mutilated male, not a “she”.
Sadly NH seems to be going the way of VT and ME, as you say. If Sen Kelly Ayotte runs again in ‘16 I wonder if she will even be able to win. They had such a strong GOP tide in 2010 but most of it was undone this year. I had hoped Shaheen could be defeated in 2014 but unless there is a huge anti Democrat backlash over the health care law it looks like she could win again. What a shame.
Felons can indeed vote - in all 50 states. conditions vary in the states but the most common condition is, that they have served their time. Maine and Vermont being exceptions, where even incarcerated felons are allowed to vote.
I find no news story which claims she/he actually voted in the election. I wonder, while on probation, if she/he can vote while in office.
New Hampshire - vote restored after term of incarceration.
