Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss (Ga.) on Wednesday said that addressing the nations looming fiscal cliff took precedence over honoring the anti-tax pledge he signed for conservative activist Grover Norquist.
I care more about my country than I do about a 20-year-old pledge, said Chambliss to local Georgia television station 13WMAZ. If we do it his way then well continue in debt, and I just have a disagreement with him about that.
Chambliss said he expected that Norquist and some conservatives might hold his decision against him when he is up for reelection in 2014, but said he was confident he had made the right choice.

A republican for tax increases, sadly not a news story anymore. It is time for the republican party to wither and die.
And his belief that any taxes raised will actually be put to reducing the deficit/debt is backed up by ... ???
It'll be taxes raised and monopoly money spent so that they can raise taxes again in a few years.
I have zero belief in the federal system and their willingness to reduce either the deficit and the debt.
Throw out every one of these faux conservatives the first chance you get. The current GOP and it’s leadership need to land on the ash heap.
“Conservative activist’? Grover Norquist: Married to a muslim. Founder of the islamic institute. Agenda setter, lobbyist, policy maker and overall heavy hitter for the muslim/islamic terrorist front group, C.A.I.R. Based right here in the good old USA, this 1930’s nazi style ‘Bund’ outfit is an insidious disease and Norquist is a huge player involved up to the hilt in it. He talks, they listen.
“”20-year-old pledge””
?????
Yeah Saxby, I’ll remember it..nice of you to remind me.
Time for all the old goats to go!
How about going back to 2008 level spending?
Stop the SPENDING, you dumbass....the Deficit is the result of Reckless Spending, and until it is rolled back, there will be MORE Spending with ANY increase in Revenues....COUNT ON IT.
Not surprised at all...

Yup. Zero.
Even here in MA we balance the budget. In DC, it is Monopoly money.
Right on target. Norquist is a problem not a solution.
Norquist is also a big time amnesty supporter.
Uh, okay.
I’d ditch the pro-Islamist, illegal amnesty loving SOB too. Norquist is poison.
I think most would have turned their back on their promises and on us even if Romney had won. I believe the difference is only in how screwed we are.
Another *conservative* who doesn’t get the more you give the government the more it will spend and the more it will spend the more debt we will have.
Everyone should ditch the terror-supporting Norquist.
I despise Norquist as well, but what do you mean by the “Bund” comment. I would like to know more about this.
