President Obamas reelection guaranteed at least one thing for his second term Obamacare is here here to stay. But that is not going to keep Republicans from trying to chip away at the law. House Speaker John Boehner wrote, in an op-ed, Tuesday that cuts to the presidents landmark legislative achievement should be included in efforts to deal with the looming fiscal cliff.
We cant afford it, and we cant afford to leave it intact. Thats why Ive been clear that the law has to stay on the table as both parties discuss ways to solve our nations massive debt challenge, said Boehner.
The Affordable Care Act or Obamacare as it is more commonly known has been a favorite target of Republicans. Mitt Romney pledged to work to repeal it. House Republicans have tried to de-fund it.
But the election stopped those efforts in their tracks.
Even House Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in the country, told ABCs Diane Sawyer just after election day that plans to do away with the national health law were changed by the election and that Obamacare was the law of the land. He later clarified over twitter that Our goal has been and will remain, #fullrepeal. That may be the goal, but his arsenal of political tools makes it a long shot...

No...Boehner just wants another drink.
He’ll fold...just like always.
Well, we are in the worst recession, one step short of a depression, since FDR was President. And we vote ourselves the largest entitlement program in history???? MAKES NO SENSE!
This is his way of trying to prepare us for his big surrender. Playing make believe.
It’s NOT a “Fiscal Cliff”....it’s a SPENDING CLIFF!!!! And, Obamacare will just push us there FASTER....we’ll see what happens with this...I’m sure the Leftists will say “it’s the Law of the land.”
I think they should just let the “fiscal cliff” event that they set uo last year happen. At least this way taxes would go up on everybody and not just the “rich” and a lot of people who get back more than they put into taxes would finally start paying in. I bet these folks would rethink the whole socialist thing if they were actually paying for it.
bttt
When 47% get government goodies, why do you expect anything different?
I know exactly how you feel about this,
Of course Obama with help from Republicans have set up Rs to get the blame for raising taxes. That is why Rs will give in.
Don't forget that House Rs in congress passed the automatic spending cuts with O as a partner to get Pelosi votes and then they spent over a year complaining how bad they would be if they were not repealed.
“Im sure the Leftists will say ‘its the Law of the land’.
Certainly, it’s the law of the land.
But when it comes to immigration law, the system is “broken” and we need an amnesty.
The free stuff they receive exceeds the minuscule federal tax they will end up paying.
Food stamps
Rent subsidy
Heat subsidy
Obamacare
Obama phones
Medicaid
Contraceptives
Pre-natal care & delivery
Transportation to medical facility
Translators for non-English speaking
Lawyers for the indigent
Pell Grants
Daycare
All of above is free for those who pay little or no federal income tax.
The cowardly lion will cave.
I get that but at least they will be paying something and it will change the way some of them look at things. My daughter was “poor” and a single mother for a few years after her divorce. She finally started making relatively good money a couple of years ago. She actually cried when she did her taxes and found out that she would be getting nothing back. It changed the way she thinks about taxes.
No he is just trying to be relevant. He would have found a way to defund it already if he was really opposed to it. In fact you may be hard pressed to find any in the GOPe that truly oppose ACA.
obama must be laughing his ass off over this comment. That Boner would make it proves that the GOP is no longer a party with any power whatsoever. I feel bad for those 30 governors who no longer have any national support under them. obamacare will eviscerate them.
And i want a Speaker of the House that that doesn't have his head up his @$$, but it isn't going to happen tomorrow.
Guys,
First of all, it’s obvious to anyone that we are going over the ‘fiscal cliff.’ It’s what Obama wants. Why? Because polls show the majority of Americans would blame the GOP. As of right now, the public would blame the GOP because they would see the failure to avoid the fiscal cliff as an issue about taxes on the rich.
Bohner sees these same polls. In order to shift this polling data he’s trying to make the conversation about the expensive and unpopular Obama Care. That way, people might conclude that we went over the ‘fiscal cliff’ because we couldn’t figure out how to pay for Obama care. Get it?
I’m not saying this strategy will work. In fact, it probably won’t work but, it’s all Bohner has in his arsenal. Most likely we go over the fiscal cliff, the public blames the GOP, and then Obama proposes a new budget with all the cuts and tax increases he likes, minus the stuff he doesn’t like. He’ll probably even increase the military a tad. The public will then be thankful Obbama rescued us and the GOP will have no political power to stop the budget.
Obviously, the Dems are feeling very confident about their strategy. Why else would Pelosi stay on for another two years? She sees a good chance to return to the speakership after the GOP takes the blame for forcing us over the fiscal cliff and slowing down the economy..
Basically, the GOP’s economic arguments are quite sound but, they will continue to ring hollow as long as the public accepts 1.4 trillion dollar anual deficits. And, so far the public accepts these deficits. It’s sad but, true. That’s why we lost the election.
That’s how it’s going down. Mark my words.
Bonehad’s next stand.
Which he will then fall upon.
He has the spine of a sponge.
The brain of an amoeba.
And the morals of a politician.
May he rest in h*ll with the Obamadork, Nancy the Ignorant Sl*t, and Harry H*rehouse Reid.
Turn up that thermostat, Beelzebub.
