If youre in Florida and planning to join in on the Papa Johns buycott scheduled for this Friday, you might want to save some room for dessert and hit Dennys afterward. A West Palm Beach restaurant owner is the latest target of a boycott campaign after floating the idea of adding a 5 percent Obamacare surcharge to customer checks starting in 2014.
Franchisor John Metz told the Huffington Post that “although it may sound terrible that I’m doing this, it’s the only alternative. I’ve got to pass the cost on to the consumer.” In August, Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter was among the first to come under fire for suggesting that implementing Obamacare would entail costs that would have to be passed on to customers.
Applebee’s has also been targeted for a boycott, although the company was quick to point out via a Twitter post that comments about a possible hiring freeze were me by an independent franchisee..

I just found Mr Metz on Facebook and sent him a message of support! Fill his inbox up today people! Find other CEO’s taking these stands publicly and encourage them.
Liberalism, at the visceral sheeperal level, is all about avoiding the consequences for your behavioral choices. That’s what 0bamacare is to them, as well - free medical coverage since I don’t want to pay for it myself.
Well, that “solution” has a consequence as well, and pointing out that consequence is highly offensive to sheeperals.
Yep, those with families will grow closer to them,
and those who have rejected the concept of family will starve anyway.
Sounds like this business man is looking ahead and using his brain. We’re talking about 2014 here. I just hope he calls it an Obama surcharge, or an O-charge,,,give credit where credit is due!
“Liberals are just dumb.”
They also forget what tip, gratuity, or propina means. So I
think their boycott would be a blessing for the waitresses.
Can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when they are told to boycott Churches, KFC or Popeyes.
Not just libs. A lot of otherwise sensible people have absorbed the notion that the 'Man' must provide certain goods and services gratis, because he provided them before and people are counting on it, or because it would be unfair not to, or simply because he should, dammit.
The problem with this thinking is it fails to consider where does the money come from? In the end, it doesn't matter even if an actual entitlement exists if there is no money to pay for it, or nowhere to redeem said entitlement. To wit: if all the medical centers go OOB, who will provide your free heath care?
Isn’t Denny’s the place that offers that Grand Slam breakfast - so named because of the way it slams your heart?
I’ve been boycotting Denny’s for years, but only for my health.
Athens? Is that you?
If his insurance costs have gone up 20%, that means one or more of those 12 people will be out of a job.
If I am running a company, I deserve to have pay for my efforts at the end of the day/week/month, etc.
IF I am not making enough money to support me for all my efforts, why would I employ & pay someone else?
The more you carve down the company owner’s income, which is often in a higher bracket for taxes, the less taxes you will collect from such an owner.
Say the owner of a company with 50 employees is paying himself $200,000 per year. It is entirely his capital investment & he is putting in hours from 6 am to early evening, and usually there on weekends. He hasn’t ever missed a payroll and prepays his taxes quarterly—ahead of the actual filing of his tax return.
There were many paydays when he didn’t get paid....but his employees never missed a paycheck.
Company benefits were more generous than other businesses in the city, and in the long run, he had employees who were with him from the first day to the last day.
He is fighting offshore companies who do a higher volume, but a poorer version of what his company produces.
Printing costs, materials & travel costs for his sales employees are on a constant climb. Federal, state & city paperwork required finds him hiring the equivilant of 1.75 employees JUST to satisfy those paperwork regulations. That equals almost 3 % of his entire workforce....just to do paperwork & comply with every changing regulations.
After over 29 years of keeping as many as 65 people employed, he finally decides to retire. Company is bought by global firm and now there are less than 15 people at original location in the USA. When Obamacare hits in January, I expect those 15 to also be out of work. Global company won’t pay for Obamacare for American employees.
He retired about 10 years ago, and is certain that he would have closed the doors with Obamacare in his face. He just would not have been able to pay his people & recover his investment costs.
Sooo- there are over 45 people who are not paying taxes like they did & they are not purchasing goods, services & vacationing like they once did. Some are also retirees, but many were young enough to have to try and find another job.
None of those found a job with the pay & perks that this company offered.
By Federal and state standards, this company was considered a small business.
I live in an apt building and have for 14 yrs not all of us are bless with the ability to buy a house or condo, dont tar everyone with the same brush
But I’ll bet you don’t vote to raise property taxes. Your presence here would indicate that. And, I’ll bet you also know that those property tax hikes aren’t just absorbed by the owners. But many of the people who live in rented housing don’t care, or actually think the property owner will just pay the tax and not raise the rent.
I hope MORE businesses pass on the Obamacare tax and put it on the receipt for the customer to see.
BTW — renters DO pay property taxes — its called rent
The consumer pays all taxes

Interesting numbers, I had heard on FR that Darden was run by a Baraqqi.
The whole country should go on strike...especially doctors.
I used to work for a “build on your lot” builder. I had an idiot come in one day who simply couldn’t understand the concept. He looked a plan and asked “How much?” Let’s say it was $100,000 to build on HIS land. Since his land was worth $20,000 he thought I should give him credit for his land and build the house for him for $80,000.
If we support the companies that raise the price to pay for obamacare, we’re doing exactly what the government wants us to do. We will be paying for someone else’s insurance.
Property taxes in Texas are sky high. Yet rent is no more than it is in states that have a lot lower tax. I’ve never understood that.
Lower taxes also allows one to qualify for larger house if the mortgage companies follow the guidelines.
