Debit cards are given to less fortunate families in Connecticut by state officials to help them purchase food, but Eyewitness News learned that some people were using the cards at strip clubs, casinos and tobacco shops.
Sarah Tresselt of Meriden is enrolled in a program called EBT cards that allow cash withdrawals at any ATM. She said her state benefits are her lifeline.
"I'm a single mom. I don't receive child support. It's just me and my son. You know, I work full-time," Tresselt said. "I don't make that much so the money that I get for food. I usually stock up on my meats and vegetables and stuff. And now I'm behind on all my bills because I had to take that cash out of my pocket."
Because of confusion at the Connecticut Department of Social Services, Tresselt said the department sent a notice that stated she needed to prove she deserved to keep receiving the benefits.

Among the thousands and thousands of withdrawals we reviewed was one at Club Chez, which is a bar and club in Hartford's south end that advertises specifically to gay customers. Someone went there and used their state benefits debit card to make a withdrawal at the bar.
People also used the card at smoke shops across the state to withdraw cash. Someone used their card at the Gold Club in Hartford, the Rockstar Gentlemen's Lounge in Wolcott and the Mardi Gras in East Windsor.
...
We also found withdrawals at an ATM in a pawn shop in Waterbury as well as Flats Tattooing Ink in Groton and at New Britain Rock Cats Stadium where the minor league team plays. State benefits were accessed at Foxwoods Casino and at a bar at the Mohegan Sun.

“unexpected”
“So welfare recipients are using MY money....”
Infuriating isn’t it? We are just soooo screwed.
But look on the “bright” side - when the SHTF there will be no more free stuff and those free-loading bastards can just starve.
The most likely reason for this is that the ATMs at these places do not charge any fees. The owners expect you to spend the money there, and arrange for the ATMs to be free.
If you just withdraw the money and leave, you save two or three bucks.
When the SHTF we will all be in the same boat, Lugging a wheelbarrow full of mony to buy a loaf of bread. Our savings gone to inflation, our bank accounts ravaged by trabnsaction taxes, Fuel $10 dollars a gallon and electricity so high we won’t be able to afford it.
Ammunition will be at a premium, Stock up.
Ah come on are you against ‘social justice’? s/
I have no problem with benefits going to the TRULY needy - elderly, blind, disabled.
But not to worthless slobs who are guaranteed to vote democrat.
I've never seen an ATM at a casino that didn't charge higher than average fees.
Station here in Indy did same study of Indiana TANF.
Cards swiped in Cal, NYC, Vegas, Disney (Ca and Fl), Puerto Rico, Nevada brothels, yadda yadda.
We’re all suckers...sadly.
7-11’s most prominent sign in Washington State is:
“EBT Accepted Here”
if I lie on an application can they jail me?...
how about voting multiple times?....we need to publish a "Stealing Elections for Dummies"....
no we’re not, there’s only one Allen West out of 535 congress critters and he’s hanging on by a thread......couldn’t carry the load of resisting these marxists by himself...............
Probably some disenfranchised single mother of 6 pulling out cash for cab fare home after a tough day at work.
How do you know they are all welfare recipients? My girlfriend has a state issued debit card that she received in lieu of a monthly child support check, her ex pays the state, and she is not on welfare.
Leave it to the media to refer to them as “debit cards”; not that ANYONE is ashamed to be parasitic, anymore—except maybe conservatives.
Just yank the card...tomorrow.
“When the SHTF we will all be in the same boat....”
Same boat - different levels - they are dependant and we are (relatively) independant.
We’ll have food - water - guns....and they’ll have their useless EBT cards.
They will starve - we will rebuild.
