Cornel West: Obama a 'Republican in Blackface'
The Root ^ | November 11, 2012 | Hillary Crosley

Posted on 11/12/2012 4:54:46 PM PST by nickcarraway

Cornel West has made it clear that he feels that President Obama should be more proactive in tackling issues like poverty and the prison-industrial complex. Some African Americans see the professor's views as divisive, while others say he's speaking truth to power. Recently, in an interview with Democracy Now, West and Tavis Smiley were asked about the president's priorities, and while Smiley said Americans must encourage the POTUS to be the best he can be, West was much more critical, writes the Atlanta Daily World.

"I think that it's morally obscene and spiritually profane to spend $6 billion on an election, $2 billion on a presidential election, and not have any serious discussion -- poverty, trade unions being pushed against the wall dealing with stagnating and declining wages when profits are still up and the 1 percent are doing very well, no talk about drones dropping bombs on innocent people. So we end up with such a narrow, truncated political discourse, as the major problems -- ecological catastrophe, climate change, global warming. So it's very sad. I mean, I'm glad there was not a right-wing takeover, but we end up with a Republican, a Rockefeller Republican in blackface, with Barack Obama, so that our struggle with regard to poverty intensifies" ... When asked his opinions of Michael Eric Dyson and MSNBC hosts the Rev. Al Sharpton and Melissa Harris-Perry, both strong Obama supporters, West responded with equal candor.

Hey, West.......how long has it been since anyone pointed out to you that you’re a Socialist, racist, drooling moron?

Just curious.

In some respects he is right....Bush’s budget, Bush’s tax policy including his tax rates, Bush’s monetary policy via the Federal Reserve’s Bennie Bernanke, Bush’s deficit spending only on steroids, expanding Bush’s Homeland Security (TSA and more!) and so on and so forth. West’s big problem with the Zero is that he didn’t scrap/expand Bush’s policies and make them even more progressive.

The political discussion was absurd, and those important issues went largely unaddressed. Liberal Republicans aren't far from Obama. I would disagree with West on the solutions to those problems, but he's right that they weren't part of the debate.

“Faith and Social Justice”

“Are fear and violence the inevitable consequence of clashing beliefs, or is a more tolerant world possible? BILL MOYERS ON FAITH & REASON explores this question with leading thinkers on the relationships between religious fundamentalism and democracy, equality, and human rights. “ (pbs.org/moyers/journal/07032009/profile.htm)

Bill Moyers talks to Cornel West, Serene Jones, and Gary Dorrien for a fresh take on what our core ethics and values as a society say about America’s politics, policy, and the challenges of balancing capitalism and democracy.

More About Cornel West, Serene Jones, and Gary Dorrien

Gary Dorrien is the Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary and Professor of Religion at Columbia University. An Episcopal priest, he was previously the Parfet Distinguished Professor at Kalamazoo College, where he taught for 18 years and also served as Dean

The Rev. Dr. Serene Jones became the sixteenth president of Union Theological Seminary, and the first woman president in the Seminary’s 172-year history, on July 1, 2008. She is the Roosevelt Professor of Systematic Theology.

Cornel West - One of America’s most provocative public intellectuals, Cornel West has been a champion for racial justice since childhood. His writing, speaking, and teaching weave together the traditions of the black Baptist Church(his mother) , progressive politics(his son), and jazz(his “holy” ghost - haffast). THE NEW YORK TIMES has praised his “ferocious moral vision.”

Currently the Class of 1943 Professor at Princeton University, West entered the national scene in 1993 with his bestselling book, RACE MATTERS, an analysis of racism in American democracy.

The Social Gospel

“The Social Gospel rejected the conservative individualistic social ethic, instead developing a distinctively optimistic rationale as a result of “the theological liberalism that emerged out of attempts to reconcile the Christian faith with evolutionary thought, historical-critical analysis of the Bible, philosophical idealism, and the study of other world religions.” “

“The Social Gospel may be the most crucial of all problems besetting Christian churches at this time, for when a Christian’s ethical certitudes are revealed to be defective, as it always turns out to be in the Social Gospel, then he ends up abandoning confidence in valid, Biblical faith. In practice what happens is that when Social Gospel action fails to produce valid results, the person promoting such programs does not abandon the Social Gospel and return to the true Gospel, but plunges deeper into further Social Gospel actions with progressively more frustrating results.” - Frederick Nymeyer (1971 - Calvinist)

Gee, the Cornel West Show featuring his pet dog Tavis.

West started out his career as an ad man for Brillo Pads, worked his way up to MaxiPads, and now lives in a Padded Cells.

Warned him not to play with electric sockets, but NOOOO!. He should match with that CSB creature Nancy Giles. Only problem is that when it rained, the whole family would rust.

West is a marxist, a leading member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and a leading member of the Hip/Hop, Shuck & Jive Dance Troup.

He is the man, along with Jesse Jackson Jr and Al Sharpton, who put the “CON” in CON-ARTIST. If P.T. Barnum were alive today, he’d be a student at the knee of Cornel West (as opposed to Lt. Col. Allan West).

West just goes to prove that you can be black, a professor, and crazy, and move up in life without anyone questioning his sanity.

I can just see a panel of Psychiatrists named Michael Moore, Oliver Stone, and Roseanne Barr reviewing West’s mental tests and declaring, “He’s as sane as we are”.

I rest my case, and cry for America.

When one considers that this man is a professor at Princeton University, you can appreciate a little bit the decline of the American university system.
