Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's office was notified of the attack 50 minutes after it began, and Panetta learned of it shortly thereafter as he and the military's top general headed to a previously scheduled meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House. Obama, Panetta and Army General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discussed potential responses to the unfolding events in Benghazi during their meeting, which began 78 minutes after the start of the Libya attack, according to the timeline. Panetta and Dempsey then returned to the Pentagon and began a two-hour series of meetings with General Carter Ham, head of Africa Command, and other senior military leaders from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT (12 a.m. to 2 a.m. Libya time) to organize responses to the attack. But as they arrived at the Pentagon, the surviving personnel from the consulate in Benghazi were being evacuated by a CIA team that arrived from a nearby base, about two hours after the start of the attack. Ambassador Christopher Stevens was missing.

If it was 5:20, Panetta was MEETING with Obama and certainly the highest priority would be to find out if the Ambassador was accounted for. Obviously he was not, because the CIA rescue team came back to the annex with everyone (Sean Smith was dead, they had recovered his body) but Chris Stevens.
FactCheck then says this .................Around 6 p.m.: “The mission annex then came under fire itself at around 6 o’clock in the evening our time, and that continued for about two hours. It was during that time that two additional U.S. personnel were killed and two more were wounded during that ongoing attack.”
6:07 p.m.: The State Department’s Operations Center sends an email to the White House, Pentagon, FBI and other government agencies that said Ansar al-Sharia has claimed credit for the attack on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. (The existence of the email was not disclosed until Reuters reported it on Oct. 24.)
So, Obama met with Panetta for how long? If it was more than 1 hr 7 minutes he would have known the following.
1. The consulate had been attacked 2. Ambassador Stevens was missing 3. Ansar Al-Shariah had claimed responsibility.
Where was Obama after he met with Panetta? He was obviously not in the situation room, because Panetta left the White House and went back to the Pentagon. WTF was Obama doing while our consulate was under attack and our Ambassador was missing???
He went to bed and let the grown ups handle it for him.
Sleeping. He had a busy schedule already planned for the next day.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard/read this, either.
He didn’t rush home from Walter Reed when he was told but he made his scheduled meeting with Panetta and passed it all off to Panetta—he then left to make his 6:30 dinner no matter what. He went to bed or whatever after that, he had to campaign, ya know.
And then there’s the rescue team from Tripoli, that were hung up in the Benghazi airport for over four hours on diplomatic paperwork.
Where were their sat phones to tell the air base in Italy to put armed birds in the air that would have reached Benghazi in less than an hour?
This really stinks!
